PROJECT ENVIRONMENT
The organisation is based in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania (750 000
inhabitants) just 20 minutes by bus from the city centre and 40 minutes
by bus from main railway and couch station. Bus links are wonderful.
Bus stops next to organisation and there are 4 different busses going
to the centre of Vilnius. There is big shopping centre 7 minutes walk.
There are a lot of leisure activities and some marvellous parks in the
city.
Our organisation is in "sleeping" area of Vilnius where most people
live. There are a lot of schools around but not so many places where
pupils can go after the school. So they spend time in the streets,
begin to use alcohol or drugs. Also there are no community centres
where people could come and communicate with each other.
ACTIVITIES
All tasks will be discussed with volunteers to find the best way for
volunteers and organization. Any initiative of volunteers will be
encouraged and supported to help our organization to develope.
Our organisation during a year period has about 3 weekends seminars
where we are preparing Lithuanian volunteers for working in our
organisation. So most of these seminars will be available for EVS
volunteers as well.
It is expected that the volunteer will be the active member helper in
the organisation, with the time will be able to bring to the local
community intercultural dimension.
The volunteer's role in the projects:
1.To participate in different group activities (arts, crafts, theatre, film making, sports and hikes);
2. Individual work with disadvantaged children and young people
(helping to make homework, learning foreign language, giving personal
support, etc.);
3. To help organize different events for young people (camps, hikes, concerts, etc.);
4. Assist disabled individuals in their activities.
5. Helping staff in administrative work.
In the project "SPRING BOARD" volunteer can help in educational occupation and group work with youngsters:
