The 4 volunteers will work in pairs having the opportunity to choose the type of activity they wish to undertake.
Municpality of Lehliu-Gara, is a local public institution and its
Department of Culture, Sport and Youth develops activities with young
people.
Lehliu Gara is situated in the northern part of Calarasi County,
Romania. The capital of Romania is Bucharest. Official language is
Romanian and official currency is Leul (1Euro=3,8 Lei).
Lehliu is situated on the 66th kilometre of the highway that links
Bucharest with Constanta (The Sun's Highway), on the 67th kilometre of
the National Road no. 3, that links Bucharest with Calarasi, and on the
70th kilometre of the Bucharest - Constanta railroad.
Lehliu Gara is situated in the northern part of Calarasi County, Romania having direct border with Ialomita County
Our town is not an old one, it was founded between the two world wars
around the railway station , but it was established as a town only in
1989. There are the ruins of some old mansion in the area and some
Traco-Dacian ruins.
The towns territory counts 8.206 ha, from which 500 ha represent the
towns belonging localities' built space (Lehliu - Gara , Razvani , and
Buzoieni ), 165 ha are occupied by forests, whilst the rest of the land
(84%) is represented by agricultural land, mostly private owned and the
habitable surface according to the 2004 data is 82,351 m² in total. The
total number of houses built in this land is 2,409 out of which 2,361
belong to private funds and only 48 belong to the public.
The town's climate is temperate - continental, with high temperature
fluctuations between winter and summer dropping below -20 Celsius
degrees in winter and with strong blowing winds, whilst the summers are
very warm, with temperatures above 30 Celsius degrees and usually very
small amounts of rain.
The agricultural land represents the most important natural resource of
the town. The soils are composed of different types of chernozem and
alluvial soils that make them very fertile. They are exploited mostly
by agricultural associations and cultivated generally with cereals and
technical plants.
Local fauna is specific to field areas, from small furry animals like
rabbits of the foxes to bigger animals such as dears and wild boars.
From the birds species the most present are pheasants, quails, turtle
doves, larks, sparrows, and crows, etc.
Local flora is a prairie type one, the most important plant species
being: colchicum, violas, milfoil, shepherd's purse, turkey's topknot,
stork's bill etc.
Lehliu-Gara consists of three settlements, Lehliu with 3,731
inhabitants, R?zvani with 2,266 inhabitants, and Buzoieni with 570
inhabitants. The total count of population is 6,567 inhabitants with
the trend for increasing. The population mix in Lehliu consists of
51.9% women and great capacity of young people (over 63% of the
population is under 40 years old).
The unemployment rate in Lehliu is (2%) where most of the working
population is occupied in agriculture and they do not usually register
as unemployed, but also their income and benefits tend to be very low
comparing to national standards of employed persons.
The fact that the Sun's Highway is positioned very close to the town
has created the premises for good transportation facilities for the
investors, so implicitly for the overall development of the city, e.g.:
large Biodiesel plant (60 million Euros investment) is already
functional since February 2007, Spotwear , a clothes factory ,some food
processing companies have already declared their interest to invest in
the opening of a few production units in the town , even the area is
mainly an agricultural one.
Not only the city's access to the highway connecting Constanta and
Bucuresti, but, regular bus lines and railway to other important towns
like: Constanta, Slobozia , Calarasi makes easy access to our town. We
have also cheap taxi transportation
and local bus lines to rural areas nearby .
Lehliu Gara is a regional educational centre, with over 2000 pupils in
kindergardens, schools and a highschool .They also develop some extra
-curricular activities like :festivals , trips, youth exchanges,
partnerships with other schools.

hospital and health care infrastructure, delivering medical services
for the entire population situated up to 30 km radius from the town.

necessary for effective work, but the volunteers ' activities will be
mainly developed at the new and modern Cultural Center.

, a bathroom, cabins, central heat. Football, handball, basketball ,
volleyball and tennis competitions can take place here.

Black Sea, perceive our community to become a strong partner in
eco-friendly agricultural and business innovation, an example for
business stimulation and economic growth and a dedicated environmental
supporter, investing in education, e-governance and lifelong learning,
valuing its citizens as the most important asset.
During project the volunteers will have full suport from the

and we will be counselled by other experienced organization .We will
provide language training to the volunteers in order to help them to
integrate easily in the day by day activities and every day life.
As we first intend to be a EVS group host organzisation we will offer

but we won't limit their access to one field and we offer the
posibility to show their creativity , involvement and more they will be
encouraged to propose new approaches and ideas in the projects as we
consider the vounterrs presence a great opportunity to promote cultural
diversity and European and active citizenship. They will have the

provide support on the whole period of volunteering keeping in touch
not only with our volunteers but also with the host organzation. After
their return will support them to integrate again in the society , to
create opportunities to share their experience gained in other
organziation and country.
Our organization requires young people interested and motivated to work
in the field of culture, pedagogical , urban development and media and
communication / youth information .We think that the youngsters between
18-30 are the most suitable for our organziation and some basic
knowledge and skills in urbanism , media and pedagogical field will be
an advantage as well as interest in working with children and young
people from other nationalities.A positive attitude and motivation are
recommended in order to get involved and to support youth participation
and citizenship, curiousity to discover other cultures and civilizations
, traditions , ways of living , cultural diversities and to bring his
own contribution to all activities developed and to initiate new ones
as part as a team.
We don't have any preference considering the sending organization as
working with children in cultural and pedagogical programmes and in
urbanism field is most of the time challanging and creative and we hope
he(she) will consider us a partner and work together as a team.
It is recommended for the volunteer to have basic knowledge of
English,French or German as these are the languages of communication.
The recruitment process will be objective in according to the aims of
our organziation and realized through the same questionner to all the
candidates.
Our organization is in a small town, where the overall security is on
high level due to the fact that people know each other, there is no
xenophobia and the people of Lehliu-Gara are very friendly and opened
towards foreigners.
The volunteers accomodation will be in the center of the town , having
all the facilities and ready access to all important institutions
including the police station and the hospital. The coordinator of the
programme lives in the same town and the volunteers will have the
direct support of a mentor once a week and through internet all the
time as well with their families and their sending organziation.
The coordinator and the mentor will facilitate the process of
adaptation , integration in groups of younsters with the same interests
and age and of social coehesion. They will assure that rules the like:
drink and drugs prohibition are respected, that there isn't sexual
harassement in these groupsThey will also supervise the activities
where the volunteers will be involve in order to be appropriate to the
vounteers profile , capacities and skills. A guide of rules will be
eleborated by our organization in colaboration with the mentor and will
be send to the send organization in order to be handled to the
volunteers when they have prepared for the vounteer sevice. This and
the programme of their activities will be a useful tool for them as
they need to know exactly thier rights and responsabilities .In this
booklet there will be also mentioned the people in charge with
different services. More, the coordinator and the mentor will
faciliatate the inclusion of the volunteers hosting them in families
during some week-ends.
The confidentiality will be respected at the voulneers request as long
as this will not contravene the , rules, agreements of our country, our
