Austrian day-care center for children and youngsters is looking for 2-3 EVS volunteers
Austrian day-care center for children and youngsters is looking for 2-3 EVS volunteers
Haus der Jugend is a daycare centre for youngsters between 5 and 15 years old.
A. Project environment: profile of the organisation and local community
It provides lunch, help with the homework under academic
supervision, leisure time activities in the field of sport,
creativity/art, culture and fun. At the organisation various little or
big projects such as holiday camps are also organised.
The local host project is situated in the Mozart city Salzburg, at the
banks of the river Salzach near the town center. There is a good
connection with the public bus transport system, the bus stop is only
five minutes walk from the Island. There are are private parking areas
and connection to the cyclenet of the town. Our building runs across
three floors, to host the various activities we offer. Please see also
our website at www.inselsalzburg.at
The volunteer will live in single room of a student house close to the
center of Salzburg with other EVS volunteers and international and
Austrian students.
Salzburg is the fourth biggest city in Austria (150.000 inhabitants).
It is situated 300 km west of Vienna right at the border to Germany.
Apart from Vienna, Salzburg is THE city in Austria to attract tourism.
It has a beautiful historic center that is overlooked by an impressive
fortress on a hill. The region around Salzburg is very scenic with
lakes and mountains allowing a lot of leisure-time activities. See also

B. Proposed activities for EVS volunteers
The volunteer(s) will help in the organisation for about -30 hours a week.
(From Monday - Friday - aprox. 12:00 - 18:00 pm)
The division of the activities the volunteer carries out within the organisation are divided into:
50%: play, sports and fun activities
20%: assistance to the children/youngsters to do their homework
20%: workshops dedicated to different topics
10%: running of the organisation & domestic economics (adminstration, helping in the kitchen, in the restaurant.)
If there are two volunteers at the same time (in most cases the project
time of the 2 volunteers is overlapping for a couple of months) in the
project they will be with different groups of children. As described
above there are the following groups: Wolves: 5 - 8 years, Icebears 9 -
12 years, Surfer: 12 - 15 years. So one volunteer may be with the
"wolves group" and the second volunteer in an other room with the
"Icebears" group, depending on their preferences, interests and the
needs of the organisation.
So if the volunteer is very interested in singing, dancing, doing
simple handicrafts he/she will more likely be placed with the youngest
ones and volunteers who are more interested in sports, fun and action
with the intermediate or upper age groups.
C. Volunteer profiles and recruitment process
Willingness to work with children, patience, being creative, physically
healthy (the organisation has to be informed about chronical or
pre-existing illnesses).
D. Special needs (if applicable)
We have hosted volunteers from various backgrounds, our mentor Helmut Mantl is great support to volunteers with special needs.
E. Risk prevention, safety and protection
We have regular meetings to discuss the project and also offer
supervision if needed. We can gurantee for a safe working enviroment -
also according to Austrian law. The coordinating organisation Akzente
gurantees for safe living conditions through regular visits and
feedback and will also be involved in crises, that cannot be solved
within the project.
