Belgium NGO has 2 EVS free places
JOETZ NGO is looking for enthusiast volunteers with a driving license for our “on the road for safe sex” project.
The project ON THE ROAD FOR SAFE SEX will mainly take place in Brussels and Flanders.
The national secretariat is situated in Brussels. Brussels is a
multi-cultural city of about 1 million inhabitants. It is official
bi-lingual (French and Dutch) part of Belgium, but a lot of languages
are spoken in Brussels, thanks to the multi-cultural, European and
international dimensions of the city. Thanks to its heterogeneous
population, Brussels is one of the places to be in Europe, being the
scene of many cultural and social events and the place where many
important political decisions are being taken.
Flanders is the Dutch-speaking region of Belgium, with about 6 million
inhabitants. Flanders has 6 provinces and a lot of places and
interesting cities to visit.
The volunteer will stay in Brussels so that he/she can live close to
the project (± 20min by public transport) and experience the life in
the capital. The volunteer will have an individual room in a house were
local young people are living.
Learning opportunities:
As we working in different fields (health, leisure, information,…), EVS
volunteers can get a lot of opportunities to engage themselves for the
project in which they can increase motivation for volunteerism as well
as increasing competences and knowledge in the field of youth work and
health promotion and communication.
Besides the intercultural learning aspect, the volunteer can benefit
from the trainings organized for the animators, in which he/she also
can participate. As the volunteer will be involved in the MJA-projects,
and as we offer also the possibility to engage in a personal project,
the volunteer can have a lot of learning opportunities on the level of
national and international project management.
And as we are a quite big organization, the volunteer can increase also skills on the level of organisational management.
The role of the EVS-volunteers at MJA:
The volunteer will, as main activity, contribute to the good
preparation and running of the CondoTour by giving the necessary and
adequate information, about safe sex, to the youngsters present on the
festivals. For this he/she will get the necessary training from MJA.
Next to the main activity, We also expect the volunteer to participate
in our national and international health promotion. The volunteer will
have the possibility to help us in the development of our current
health projects and to promote our existing projects for young people.
The input of the volunteer will also be expected in the international
initiatives. As MJA is constantly participating and elaborating
international projects, it's important that the volunteer can give his
opinion and participate to the creation of these projects.
The Volunteer's Activities:
CONDOTOUR
First, we have our CondoTour which will be the main activity: we
literally go on the road with our Van and bikes, to places where young
people are during the summer (youth houses, festivals,…). There we give
information about safe sex and even distribute condoms.
At the CondoTour, the international volunteer comes in contact with our
local volunteers. In this way, we think the participation of an
international volunteer would be interesting for both parties.
We have 2 condoVans ("condomobiel").
This project is runned with one of the 2 van's we have. With this Van,
we go to the a festival tour. We have several big festivals in Belgium
where the condovan will be present. For the EVS volunteer, the
CondoTour gives the possiblity to see quite some places in Flanders
(outside of Brussels) since the tour is going where young people are
during the summer (on festivals). Going along on this CondoTour also
means the volunteer has the opportunity to meet a lot of young Belgians
and also quite some of our Belgian volunteers.
INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITIES
The volunteer will be implicated in the international initiatives. She
will have the opportunity to help us in the preparation and
organization of our training course and youth exchanges where we are
sending our volunteers to and to all the different international
projects we have.
INTERNATIONAL AND NATIONAL YOUTH HEALTH PROMOTION
Concerning the regional activities, there is a variety of activities
and projects that the volunteer will contribute to, like a training
activity for the youth health workers, a training course for team
leaders for exchanges, the existing health promotion, …
OPTION FOR A PERSONAL PROJECT
Besides this there is space for other activities as well as a personal
project. This project can be a national or international activity
within the philosophy of youth work and/or youth health promotion.
The volunteers have to be between 18 and 30 years old (as mentioned in
the Youth in Action Programme) at the beginning of their voluntary
activity.
Personal interest and motivation, as well for youth health promotion as
for youth work will be very important, but no specific knowledge or
skill are required.
The volunteer should be interested in working in a youth organisation,
in international youth work, in the context of non-formal education, to
work with youth and to work in the field of health, as well in the
broad sense of the word, as in the specific context of sexual and
reproductive health.
We aim to find a multiplication effect in terms of increasing of the
motivation to work in the field of international youth work, and
specifically in Youth in Action.
How we will foresee the "vacant EVS placement":
Besides the database from which we receive spontaneous reactions, the
project will also be announced by email lists (in total about 20 email
groups), to the people that showed interest in the past, and by the
website www.action2.be.
The volunteer will be selected according to the candidates' motivation,
interest, learning possibilities, intercultural learning aspect.
How we will select the volunteer(s) among the candidates and how we
will ensure the openness and transparency of the recruitment process:
To ensure the openness and transparency of the recruitment process,
different levels of selection and persons will be involved. Selection
will be made by: EVS collaborator, the EVS-coordinator of MJA, the
director, the responsible of the CondoTour, and in close consultation
with the EVS mentors.
First each member of selection team will read all applications and make
a selection of the different profiles of the candidate-volunteers.
After that the selection team will organize a meeting where they will
discuss upon the selected applications and make a final selection.
The final selection of the volunteer will be made according to the
further information and interest that the volunteer will share, as well
as the availability of the volunteer (as the procedure is taking time,
some of the volunteers have found already another project in the mean
time).
With this selection at different levels, we believe we will realise a good matchmaking.
