What’s in it for the volunteer ?
In general, the task of this European volunteer is a mix of further described topics. The goal of the
Flamboree project is to create an international camp for 1500 Scouts and Guides from more than 30
countries starting from 29th July until 8th of August 2009. During the preparation of the project, about
150 volunteers of Scouts en Gidsen Vlaanderen are doing the necessary work, divided in 10
workgroups. The reason why we would like to give a EVS volunteer the chance to help in the
preparation and the camp itself, is to create awareness among our members and leaders of the
international dimension of scouting and guiding and the Flamboree project.

Main tasks:
     - Participating in the preparation meetings of the workgroups and the coordination team, and
         some weekends.
     - Helping in preparing some intercultural workshops and games, together with the other
         volunteers in our Program Team.
     - Participate in the preparation of the international camp Flamboree by answering
questions (by e-mail) of participants and staff.
     - Administrative support on the organization of Flamboree, completely organized with
volunteers, as there are registering inscriptions, setting up and sending purchase orders,
         invoices,...
     - Talking with the leaders of the groups of youngsters with a disability and disfavored people
to provide the necessary settings to give them the opportunity of intercultural experiences.
     - Together with other volunteers, helping to design the construction and deconstruction plan
         of the camp.
Living in Antwerp
He/she will be working at the national office of Scouts en Gidsen Vlaanderen, in the centre of the city,
near the railway station. Antwerp is the second biggest city of Belgium with around 350.000
inhabitants. It’s undoubtly the most important economical centre of Flanders. Antwerp is known for
his harbour, diamond industry and fashion. Antwerp is also a mix of many cultures, an aspect that
has his its conflicts but also enriches the way of multi cultural living. As a volunteer in this city, you
will live in a lively atmosphere as the city has an enormous number of pubs, disco’s, summer
festivals, musea, concerts, streetmusicians,...
Gained experiences
The volunteer will be working among Scouts and Guides in Flanders and share ideas with them. Being
involved in the Flamboree project means getting in contact with youngsters from all over the world.
Getting the chance to work independently on a project and taking responsibility over his/her work,
taking initiatives and giving multiplication effects on his/her efforts. Learned experiences can later on
be used in the way of working in scouting in the home country.
A new home and workspot
The volunteer will be staying in a family to have the opportunity to get to know the daily life in our
country. We would like to set up the working schedule and free time together with the volunteer in
order to have enough time to get to know the country and its inhabitants, to develop further his/her
personality. In general, a workweek consists of 37 hours and there are 2 free days every month.
There will be a certain amount of weekend or evening work together with other volunteers, although
free weekends will be taken into account. There will be a startup period of 2 to 4 weeks, together
with a mentor, to get familiar with the working environment and to learn some basic knowledge of
Dutch. We will provide flexibility in the tasks of the volunteer in order to have the possibility for the
volunteer to influence the amount of time used for the different tasks.
