The main objective will be for the volunteers to contribute to the empowerment of vulnerable and war effected adolescents and children in Georgia, enabling the youth to develop their personal and life skills, reveal leadership opportunities and become active participants within society.
Charity Humanitarian Centre "Abkhazeti" have two placements within the domain of the Non-Formal Education Program, which is implemented in 6 cities of Georgia; one placement in CHCA branch office Poti, and the other placement within CHCA head office in Kutaisi. The third one is in the office in Tbilisi
Theme:
The two volunteers will be actively involved in The Non Formal Education Program, run by CHCA. This program has been operating since 2000 in 6 towns of Georgia (Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Tskhaltubo, Zugdidi, Senaki, Poti) under the financial support of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Approximately 750 internally displaced adolescents benefited through the technical trainings and other personal and life skills development activities by the program every year. In 2007 the proposed project will also take place in Gali region.
Specific Objectives:
No War Zone Georgia project will strive to implement the following objectives through the two EVS volunteers:

Providing adolescents with technical skills development, trainings in English language and computer skills;

Increasing their awareness in the peace building issues;

Developing team work, leadership, mediation, and conflict resolution skills;

Promoting a deeper and practical understanding and appreciation of democratic principles and human rights;

Providing the desired youth with vocational (craft) retraining opportunities and supporting them in becoming masters of their chosen vocation;

Improving voluntary skills and capacity through the different innovative components;

Developing networking amongst NWZ Clubs both in Georgia and abroad through the implementation of joint activities and section projects through the No War Zone internet site, which can be found at: http//:www.nowarzone.org

Building the sustainability elements of the project;

Strengthening the capacity and professionalism of the project participants, through developing voluntary Club Leaders, Head of Sections, Voluntary Trainers and Media Groups.
Project Activities
The volunteers will be activity involved with the project activities, which will be implemented through No War Zone Clubs and Weekend Schools established and will benefit IDP adolescents and returnee youth from vulnerable families. 15 internally displaced and returned adolescents aged 13-18 will be involved in each Club, 30 in total in each of the two youth clubs in Poti and Kutaisi. The NWZ club activities will be divided into two areas: Educational and Citizenship Activities. The Program Manager will over see all the NWZ Georgia project and a Project Monitor assigned to the NWZ Clubs in Poti and Kutaisi. Club Leaders will then be nominated for each individual club, voluntarily managing their clubs overall activities. Head of Sections will then be assigned for the two areas of Educational and Citizenship activities. Within these two areas the ID youth will be selected for training in the weekend schools. The youth chosen for the above responsibilities will be selected by merit, motivation and ability.
Educational Activities within the Clubs:
The volunteers will be involved with general management, monitoring and evaluation of all the educational activities, covering the technical and personal empowerment training courses led by the trainers, Project Monitors. The training courses will be held in the following fields:

English training – will last for 8 months (4 hours per week) and will provide the club members with basic speaking/listening skills of conversational daily English, elementary grammar and instruction for professional writing and speaking. The volunteers will begin these classes, editing/up-dating the CHCA English teaching curriculum as they progress developing their own teaching style. The volunteers will also monitor all CHCA English teachers within the 6 project target cities.

Computer trainings – will last for 4 months (4 hours per week) and will introduce the club members to the basic principles of PC and train them to use Microsoft Office programs (Windows, Word, Excel, Internet).

Conflict Management – will last for 4 months (2 hours per week) and will support the adolescents in forming their interpersonal skills in order to enable them to manage their emotions, be tolerant, communicative, independent, flexible and easily adapted to the existing social and living environment.

Human Rights trainings – will last for 4 months (2 hours per week) and the club members will be introduced the principles of democracy and human rights.

Life Skills trainings – will last for 4 months (2 hours per week) and will introduce the club members with the methods of organization establishment/development, project proposal writing as well as the ways of fundraising.

Business and Project Management trainings – will be conducted by the Project Monitors after receiving the training during the coordination meetings. Therefore there will be 4 days of training, over the 8 months. Business Management will include the basics of business development, techniques and marketing issues, and Project Management will include project planning/time management, implementation, monitoring and evaluation and reporting.
Citizenship Activities within the Clubs:
Simultaneously with the educational activities, the volunteers will pay significant attention to practical realization of the gained knowledge by increasing the role of youth in social activities and supporting the development of voluntary skills via the following project components:
Section Activities:
The educational training of the NWZ Clubs will be innovated by several interesting activities which will be implemented by sections. The following sections will be established within the Clubs in Poti and Kutaisi:

Public Relations Section
2 youth will hold the Head of Section Activities responsibility, Head of Education and Head of PR. The club members will join the above mentioned sections according to their motivations and abilities. The head of section will be responsible for coordination of planning and implementation of section activities together with his/her group (section). Each section will have to organize at least 4 events within the framework of it's activities during the project implementation.
Education Section: The Education Section will mainly support the development of the Weekend School and informational maintenance of the ID youth through different methods. The section will be responsible for the establishment of the Weekend School, elaboration of its schedules and working methodologies and technical assistance of the Weekend School trainers. The European volunteer will be automatically involved in the activities of the Education Section.
Weekend School: In the framework of the project the IDP collective centers and secondary schools will be selected by the club members where the Weekend School will be established. One Weekend School will be established, where ID and returnee children from 10-14 will be involved. Approximately 15 adolescents will be selected within each city. The target group of the Weekend Schools will be younger members of the community, the trainers will conduct trainings by entertaining methods as role playing, simulation exercises, different energizers, etc.
Public Relations Section: The Public Relations Section will mainly support the promotion of the NWZ Clubs’ activities in the target regions and the promotion of ID and returnee youth related issues in society. The section will conduct needs assessments of the youth community, collating all information which they will then use for presentations and joint meetings between the club members and the representatives of different sectors (Government entities, services, local and international NGOs) to share the ideas and needs of youth generation. The role of youth in the process of decision making and development of ID and returnee civil society will be discussed at the mentioned meetings as well as the utilization of youth resources in supporting the education of ID and returnee youth, questions of concrete social problems of IDPs and returnees and searching ways for their solution. Simultaneously once a month the section members will invite local influential role models to their clubs to share their personal and professional experience; the guests will be selected by the members of the clubs themselves.
Informational Bulletin: Joint informational bulletins will be one of the main means of exchanging information and effective communication between the club members. The volunteers will be involved with the organisation and editing of 4 editions to be published over 8 Months, one edition for every two months. 600 Copies will be distributed per edition. The Media Group will be established in each target city which will coordinate the bulletin preparation (getting information and analyzing). The information for the bulletin will be shared by the Internet among the club members. The bulletin will be published by a publishing company and will be spread in all target cities among the NWZ Clubs, Weekend Schools, the parents of project beneficiaries, IDP collective centres, IDP schools and returnees in Gali.
