Children and Yoth Club from Czezh Republic is looking for one EVS volunteer
His/her main activity will be working in our club.
A. Project environment: profile of the organisation and local community
Organization DDM Mikádo
There are several courses for children every day at DDM. In the morning
there are courses for 2-3 years old children and their mothers, in the
afternoon there are courses for school children.
Each course usually takes one and a half hours every week, through out
the school year. There are 10 – 15 pupils in each course. And up too 20
pupils in sport course.
Each course is led by skilled staff with whom the volunteer may cooperate.
The courses start in October and end in May at DDM. There are not
regular activity during the summer months at DDM, there are summer
camps and individual projects though. The volunteers, including local
people, students and pupils, cooperate with us with individual
projects. The volunteer have the opportunity to meet them. Those
projects are prepared by teams of employees and the volunteers. There
is a bigger project twice a year, where 1000 – 2000 people participate,
and approximately 5 times a year there is the project for 500
participants. These are mostly projects for families.
Our organization can help our volunteer to acquire information about
Czech culture and its people, about its history as well as its current
situation. Whilst mixing with our young people he/she will learn in
detail about issues and topics that interest our young people. Because
we organize multilateral exchange, he/she will not only be able to mix
with young Czech people but also we will enable him/her to meet people
of other nationalities.
Vysoké Mýto is a small town aprox 12 000 inhabitants.
There is a cinema, a theatre, bars and restaurants, an excellent sweet shop and an
excellent bakery in Vysoké Mýto.
Sports – swimming pool, aerobic classes, squash, bowling, belly dance, and a weight training room.
There is very good access to big cities with many more facilities
Hradec Králové 40km, Pardubice 35km, Brno 100km, Prague (the capital
city)150km. You can go there by buss or train.
The volunteers will be accommodated in self-contained apartment. Each
volunteer will have their own bedroom and the facilities will be
shared. The food will be arranged according to the individuals needs.
B. Proposed activities for EVS volunteers
He/she will benefit from this experience by learning about Czech
culture and hospitality. It will also be a language motivation for our
young people to learn his/her native language. Such exchanges will be
an important element in learning about cultural differences and
tolerances. He/she can use his/her knowledge and skills and pass them
on. We will organize presentations in our club as well as local
schools.
Every year Vysoke Myto organizes days of European culture and a week of
European music. This would be an ideal opportunity for our volunteers
to introduce their country.
The volunteer' task will be the preparation of activities arranged by
our organization for children and youth. His main activity will be
working in our club. The club is a place for meeting young people. The
club offers table games, competitions, languague games, club programs,
discusion and meetings.
The Club works in the afternoons and that is why the main volunteers
activity our in the afternoons. Creative and communicative feel at home
here, they will will feel a part of the club. The volunteer will also
prepare drinks for visitors of the club: Tea , bottled drinks, or some
snacks, for example toasts. The capacity of the club is 25 people.
The club´s visitors will mostly be children and youths from 12 – 16
years, occasionaly older. The club´s visitors will have the oportunity
to listen to music, and play desk soccer. There is access to the
internet . Next to the club is a small hall where there is a bouldering
wall. The volunteer will participate in all our youths activities. The
volunteer should spend 1/2 - 2/3 time in the club.
Next time
- The volunteer will assist the educational staff and the leaders of
groups. Irregular leisure time activities run during the entire year.
For example: weekend trips, competitions, exhibitions, weekend
activities, summer and winter camps. Volunteers will help with the
preparation of programmes for these activities and with course. For
example Devil´s Day ,Day of children - preparation of games,
competitions, leadership of activities during this day, …
C. Volunteer profiles and recruitment process
- It is necessary to be flexible and work more hours during the summer
camp activities as it does not follow standard schedule. Our work is
not regular and therefore we would welcome helpful person, who will not
mind prearranged changes. We are open to discussion on these times.
- The actual work of the volunteers will be based on working with
children and young people. They will learn to organize their own
activities. They will work in a large group of people which will help
them to improve their social and communication skills.
- The volunteer will be able to work on their own projects
- Volunteers can cooperate with other organizations in our town (schools, library) to present their culture.
- The volunteers will not be responsible for children and youth in clubs, activities, camps…
- The volunteer can choose and participate on regular activities or
courses according to his abilities and interests. Whether his hobby is
sport or fishing.
Creative and comunicative person will feel at home here!
D. Special needs (if applicable)
Our organization wants to be open to volunteers with fewer
opportunities. We will ensure that these people will receive extended
care so their acclimatization is less traumatic. We cooperate with many
students as well as professional people. This will ensure that each
volunteer will receive an individual approach. Our organization also
cooperates with local schools as well as educational-psychologist so if
it is necessary we can ensure psychological help.
E. Risk prevention, safety and protection
Safety training will be held during the first 14 days in our
organization. The volunteer will get instructions and directions on how
to act during any situation. They will receive all relevant numbers to
police, ambulance service and firemen. We will acquaint with Czech law.
