Children and youth center from Germany needs support of one EVS volunteer
In cooperation with responsible pedagogic specialists she/he supports the children in their homework for example, individual work or offers of appropriate leisure activities or games.
A.
The registered association "Initiative for children and young person in Laer and Holthausen" has two support legs:
1. Support of the open full-time-offers of the "Werner Rolevinck primary school"
2. Support of the open child and youth work in the local parts Laer and Holthausen.
The association wants to receive or create positive living conditions
for young humans and their families with its activities as well as
child and family-friendly environment. The repertoire of the
association is very extensive, it promotes educational, social and
artistic interests. Creative actions with children, sport, music and
art are some of the offers for children and young people in Laer.
The municipality Laer is to approx. 25 km northwest from the Westphalia
metropolis Münster in area of Kreis Steinfurt, embedded into the park
landscape Münsterland nearby the Teutoburger hood. The municipality
consists of two village communities, the local part Laer and the local
part Holthausen. Altogether approx. 6,800 inhabitants are living in the
municipality. Laer is leading the statistics of the highest birth rate
per head in Germany. Thus one finds apart from one four-brisk primary
school five kindergartens, one Youth centre and very lively clubs and
societies in sports and culture. Both localities are shaped by
historical buildings, which are typical for the westphalian landscape.
The connection by a high-speed bus to Münster, the nearby airport
Münster/Osnabrück and those motorway A1 which can be reached fast offer
optimal possibilities of mobility. The municipality Laer is, typically
merged for the Muensterland, into a well developed bicycle net. Easily
to reach are: among other things the 100-Schlösser-Route, the
Aa-Vechta-route, the bicycle routes R3 and R31 and local recreation
areas like the Strübberhoek.
As leisure activities the local resident associations offer the
possibility for football, table tennis, tennis, Volleyball,
Inlineskating, a one-wheel-bike driving, cones and riding. Monthly a
culture program in historical environment takes place. Poet readings,
lyric poetry, satire, theatre performances, exhibitions, concerts or
also a jazz Frühschoppen belong to it.
Creative actions with children, sport, art, music are some offers for children and young people in Laer.
B.
The registered society "Initiative for children and youth in Laer and
Holthausen" has two aims: the relief and the realization of the open
full-time school at the Werner-Rolevinck Elementary School and the
coordination of the child and youth work in the municipality. In the
Open Full-Time School two care offers are realized: " Dependable school
from 8:00 till 13:00 o'clock" and full-time offer till 16:30 o'clock.
During the Morning Care Offer the school guarantees in the first place,
that the children are looked after dependably till 13:15 o'clock, the
emphasis is due to the afternoon on the promotion and demand of the
children. The children have lunch together, do their homework under a
professional care and eventually can either participate in activities
and offers or play independently.
The volunteer is an additional help during the care of the children. In
cooperation with responsible pedagogic specialists she/he supports the
children in their homework for example, individual work or offers of
appropriate leisure activities or games. The tasks are available
sufficiently for 2 volunteers. According to the individual competence
and abilities the tasks are divided up emphatically. Through two in
each other passing care offers as well as through the association aims,
for the volunteer turns out a varied and an interesting job and a week
course (represented in the following tabular form). The tasks of the
volunteer:
" care of children
" stimulation for playing and learning activities
" varied and appropriate offers (for example bike tours, tinkering-offers, organise of Christmas celebration)
" to organise common meals
" to help at homework care
" to develop media projects, like a pupil newspaper- independently
" instruction and care in the self learning- centre
" introduction to the medium of computers and Internet
" creative offers
" collaboration in already existing projects of the Open Child and Youth Association (Midnight sport, Inline skating etc.)
" suggestion of own projects in the Open Child and Youth Association.

C.
The volunteer should bring fun and joy at working with children in the
elementary school age and with youngsters up to 16/17 years. Basic
knowledge of German language and possibly experiences in the youth work
are desirable, but not absolutely necessary.
