ENVIRONMENT

Children Support Centre is situated in the capital of Lithuania - Vilnius. The Centre is in one of the oldest and pretty peaceful districts of Vilnius - in Zverynas. The Vilnius' center and old town is in 15 minutes go on foot and 10 minutes go by bus or troley.

Children Support Centre is one of Vilnius' organizations that work with children and volunteers. Big Brothers Big Sisters program is one of Children Support Centre's programs. Children who participate in Big Brothers Big Sisters program live in Vilnius. Volunteers who take part in the program live or/and study in Vilnius. The main reasons why volunteers want to participate in BBBS are: wish to help children, to learn something new and interesting, to find new friends and to feel required.


ACTIVITIES FOR THE VOLUNTEER

We would like to offer to the volunteer interesting and creative work with children and local volunteers. Children Support Centre coordinate Big Brothers Big Sisters program. The main work for international volunteer will be in this program. Work with children and volunteers will help to develop communicative skills, support and help abilities of the volunteer.

Volunteer will have an opportunity to prepare and organise children' club where he/she can implement various creative activities. Children club - is club for children who need social support of organization. "Children club" goal - to develop children' social skills, to help children to find friends, to learn something new. Members of this club are children who participate in Big Brothers Big Sisters program. In the beginning international volunteer can jointly help to organise and lead activities in the club, later to organise individual club for children. International volunteer will be able to show his/her initiative and creativeness to organize activities for children. Communication with children will help the volunteer to develop Lithuanian language skills. Also children will be glad to get to know different language, new culture and traditions from the international friend.

Big Brothers Big Sisters programs' coordinators organize 3-4 social events per year for children and volunteers. International volunteer will be able to join with his/her ideas and suggestions how to organize these events and to help to prepare them.

In the summer we organise camps for children and volunteers. International volunteer will be able to participate in there as well by organising activities. Volunteer can also individually organise a camp taking personal initiation. We will support him/her.

In general international volunteer will be able to initiate his/her own activities with/for children and local volunteers. We will support and plan together these steps.


VOLUNTEER PROFILE

We would like to accept the volunteer no younger then 18 years old. The volunteer will have to work with children and youngsters, so we would like the volunteer obtain such skills as responsibility, motivation, flexibility. Also important is volunteers' wish and some skills in working with children and teens. Also important is that volunteer can keep some rules, like no smoking in the area of the Centre, no drugs, no alcohol. Communicative and creative skills are greatly appreciated.
