We are participating in this program since 2006 and we had 5 volunteers
from various countries.

The Institute aims to organize language courses for foreign students, teachers and academics. The courses also include the German culture and the areas's special regional background. It was founded over 14 years ago in order to reactivate the former university life and take a stand against xenophobia.

About 250 foreign participants attend our courses. The local residents are
integrated into our work through home-stay for participants. Joint
meetings are appreciated by both the participants and the residents.
The team consists of four members. The managing director and one employee are responsible for the course development and the organization of courses. There is also one secretary and one teacher.

The aspect of intercultural understanding is of great importance to the
Institute , which is offering courses for
German as a second language. Students and young academics are not only
learning the German language but also German culture and way of living
during their home-stay with local families. Most of our students are
coming from American or Japanese Universities who are very interested in
projects and activities which are concerned about Europe and how different
cultures can live together. Offering our students the opportunity to get
in dialog with other European young people is the motivation to take part
in this program. The combination of volunteers from Europe and
international students enriches not only our programs but also the
cultural life at the town Wittenberg. To get in contact with other
European young people offers the opportunity for an interesting
intercultural dialog and a reflection of the one’s own culture.

The institute is interested in continuing the positive experience with an
international volunteer which enriches the institute’s life and the
course offering. Prior to course beginnings the team and the volunteer
will develop a program for several cultural activities. The performance
can be done together with others or by him or herself and he/she is free
to bring their own ideas to the program. The benefit for the volunteer
will include knowledge about organizing cultural happenings as well as
seminars and courses and also an improvement of German language skills.


The person the institute is looking for should be open minded, flexible,
interested in foreign cultures, educational work and working with other
people. A good knowledge of spoken and written German and English would be
helpful for a quick integration.

We would like to apply February 1st to start with the volunteer in May
2011. We would appreciate if the person would stay for 12 month.
