The volunteer will work closely togerther with the staff of the centre. He/she will be espected to take part in various dayly tasks in the house.
Working hours will preferably be Monday-Thursday from 9am-3pm plus some evenings and weekends in connection with special events. The working hours will not exceed 35 hours pr. week (incl. language training) and we are willing to adjust the schedule if the volunteer has any special wishes.
The volunteer will get his/her own desk at the office.
The house is situated in the middle of the town Aabenraa and only 50 metes from the shopping mall. The cente used to be an old school but recently it has reconstructed and now it is a very nice, tidy and bright building with an interior suitable for its current activities.
The social working environment is very nice, and we all work hard and laugh and talk a lot!

AFS Interkultur is meber of the world-wide youth organisation, American Field Service, which has offices in 55 countries. AFS programmes include 12 months high school stay and 5-12 months youth exchange for people from 18 to 25 years of age.
Today AFS is an independent youth organisation with a strong international network (AFS Intercultural Programs). AFS is a voluntary based, non-profit organisation independent of political and religious interest. In Denmark AFS Interkukltur was estabilished in 1957 and has today 43 local chapters.

B.
The volunteer will be given the opportunity to learn something about Danish culture. He/she will help in the daily running of the centre and in that way get to know all the aspects of our service to the citizens, the ecoomical considerations, how to get the most out of limited ressources, etc.
As we are only few staff members in the centre, there are lots of oppotunities for the volunteer to create his/her own projects.
Examples of activities in which the volunteers could be involved:
- Planning of concerts and other events
- Helping in the café
- Putting up posters
- Painting some of the rooms
- Shopping
- Preperations for meetings/events
- Teaching in the work rooms
- Helping in the kitchen
The volunteer is very welcome to arrange any kind of cultural happenings and if he/che has particular practical skills, he/she will have plenty of possibilities within that field as well.
AFS will provide a host family for the volunteer. The life in a host family will facilitate the integration in the local community and will accelerate the process of both language and intercultural learning.
The volunteer will be invited to social events arranged by AFS's local chapter and in that way meet other volunteers, exchange students and host families.

C.
We would welcome a mature person, who speaks either English, German, Italian or Danish at a conversational level.
We expect the volunteer to have a good sence of humour, be openminded and interested in culture.
Candidates with creative skills such as dancing, playing music, theater, ceramics, painting or IT are encourated to apply. However, such skills are not a requirement.

E.
"Nygadehuset" complies with Danish safety regulations. The work at the centre does not involve any special risks.
