Danish folk high school has a free EVS place
Danish folk high school has an international profile.
A. Project environment: profile of the organisation and local community
We are a small school with room for about 50 students. This means the
students have plenty of opportunities for getting to know each other
well.
The folk high school has many facilities e.g.
- access to a PC-network
- modern sound studio for our folk music performers
- facilities for practising music
- pool-café with a piano for our playing students
- sports facilities
The folk high school is placed in Brenderup - a small village with a couple of groceries, drug stores, schools and a library.
Brenderup is close to both beach and forest. We often arrange
activities away from the high school. The type of activities depends on
the season, but examples of activities are going to the beach for a
swim or touring on the school bikes.
The closest city is Middelfart which is 16 km west from Brenderup.
Contact point:
AFS Interkultur is member of the world-wide youth organisation,
American Field Service, which has offices in 55 countries. AFS
programmes include 12 months high school stay and 5-12 months youth
exchange for people from 18 to 25 years of age.
Today AFS is an independent youth organisation with a strong
international network (AFS Intercultural Programs). AFS is a voluntary
based, non-profit organisation independent of political and religious
interest. In Denmark AFS started in 1947 and has today 43 local
chapters.
B. Proposed activities for EVS volunteers
The volunteers will have the possebility to be a part of the special fellowship you find on a folk high school.
The most important task for the volunteers will be to inspire us in our
daily work. We expect them to help us look at the work we are doing in
new ways, and to provide a different viewpoint in the themes we are
discussing. There will be plenty of opportunity for the volunteers to
make new initiatives and for creating their own activities.
Examples of activities in which the volunteers could be involved:
- construction of a nature playground for grown-ups
- other practical work in or around the high school
- assisting in the planning of leasure activities for the students on evenings and in weekends
- participating in our folk music courses
The volunteers will also have the opportunity to participate in our
international class where international subjects are taught, and they
will also be able to receive Danish lessons at the school.
Lodging and boarding:
The volunteers will be lodged at the high school where they will live
in a separate area with bedrooms, bathroom and kitchenette with a
microwave etc. They will eat at the school together with the students
and the staff.
The volunteers will also be invited to social events arranged by the
AFS's local chapters together with other volunteers, exchange students
and host families.
C. Volunteer profiles and recruitment process
We would prefer volunteers who are open-minded, reflective, mature and full of initiative.
Volunteers with interest in folk music will be welcomed specially to apply.
The vounteers must be able to speak English at a conversational level.
E. Risk prevention, safety and protection
Brenderup folk high school complies with Danish safety regulations. The work at the school does not involve any special risks.
