Day Care Center Käo and Children Care Center Käo from Estonia are looking for 2 EVS volunteers
The volunteers will work in day care centre with mentally disable adults and in children day care centre with young people in Tallinn.
EVS project will take place in Tallinn, which is capital city of
Estonia and most developed and populated area in the country, Käo
Centre for Adults is situating close to the city center. About Tallinn

The activities mainly take place in the Day Care Center Käo Adults
Center. The center is opened from Monday- Friday 07.30AM till 17.00PM.
The Center is usually closed in July/August. During the summer time
there are summer camps organized for the clients of the center.
Working as a volunteer in Käo Centre with disabled adults is good
learning opportunity for the young people. Through the work they will
get very good experience from the disability field. Work with people
with disabilities may be emotionally hard in the beginning without any
previous experience, but it also gives very much for the volunteer in
terms of personal development and reviewing the values to life.
Volunteer will get good understanding of the Estonian social system.
Volunteers creativity and communication skills will develop strongly as
volunteers needs to find ways how to get contact with the clients of
Käo centre, none of the clients speaks English, and many of them have
difficulties to communicate verbally in general.
Volunteer will work as an assistant for the staff in the centre. There
is 7 different groups working at the same time and each group has
professional social pedagogue working with them. In one group there is
maximum 10 clients at the same time, groups are both in Estonian and in
Russian. The volunteer will work in close relation with the pedagogues.
During the day there are different activities taking place in the centre, where volunteer will be helping:
practising and learning main skills needed for everyday life (clothing,
personal hygiene, preparing food, housing works like washing the
dishes, cleaning rooms etc)
developing motorical skills (handicraft, walks, dancing, games etc)
developing communication skills (increasing the personal vocabulary, adapted signs for expressing personal needs and wishes)
developing social skills (cooperation, correct behaviour, orientating in local environment, creating a contact etc)
developing cognitive skills (orientating in time and room, table games,
writing, drawing, listening music, nature and self observations etc)
Volunteers activities are connected with assisting the pedagogues of
the groups. There is possibility for the volunteer also to create new
self initiative activities in the Centre.
The project is open to everybody who is positive, creative, with good
communication skills, friendly and without prejudice towards disabled
people. Should be interested in the field of disabled people as
volunteer will work everyday directly with severely and profoundly
mentally and multiply disabled adults. Former experiences in the field
of social work are not needed. Basic English is needed for
communicating with the stuff of the Center.
First selection of the volunteers will be made according to their
motivation letter and before final decision also phone interview will
be organized
This placement is also opened to host volunteers with different fewer
opportunities and as our staff is highly qualified and experienced,
then we are able to manage with different problems/challenges coming
from volunteers special needs. Project is ready to host youngsters who
are facing social, geographical, educational, and cultural and health
difficulties and obstacles. Volunteers with disabilities are welcomed
to apply for the project. Due to the character of the work and target
group, then currently it is not possible to host volunteers with mental
disorders.
