Disabled Care Center for Adults from Poland needs support of 2 EVS volunteers
The volunteers work with disabled persons under supervision of a therapist, in the following studios: household, music, arts, computer, carpentry & metalwork, horticulture & nature.
Czeszewo is a small village situated in the valley of Warta river with
less than 1000 inhabitants, close to Czeszewsko-¯erkowski Landscape
Park. You will find
a historical church and an inn, as well as the Museum of Forestry here.
There is a small city Mi³os³aw (ca 3500 inhabitants) situated about 6
kilometers from Czeszewo, with post office, banks, police station,
restaurants and shops of all kind. There are also a few historical
buildings there, as well as a beautiful park, where culture and nature
meet.
There is a bus connection with the city of Wrzeœnia (20 km, about 30000
inhabitants) and the closest bigger city, one of the biggest in Poland,
the capital city of Wielkopolska region - Poznañ (ca 650000
inhabitabts) is 60 km away from Czeszewo.
Volunteers with the Active Therapy Workshop will work 5 days a week, 6
hours a day, 9.00 a.m. - 3.00 p.m. In the case of integration
activities falling on days off work or carried out at hours that
deviate from a normal working schedule, volunteers could use that time
on other workdays.
Volunteers will work with disabled persons under supervision of a therapist, in the following studios:
1. Household
2. Music
3. Arts
4. Computer
5. Carpentry & Locksmithery
6. Horticulture & Nature
As part of their participation in activities of a given studio, our volunteers would:
- take care of handicapped persons, particular those with mobility impairments;
- assist therapists in preparing materials for any given activity;
- take part in participants' work;
- take part in therapeutic activities organised for the disabled outside of the studios and the Workshop;
- help organise and carry out ATW events;
- help establish contacts with a rehabilitation institution from the volunteer's home country;
- prepare information on the Active Therapy Worksop in the volunteers' native language
- prepare activities for ATW participants using elements of the volunteer's native cultural background.
ATW would be pleased to work with volunteers who would like to gain
experience in therapy and care of disabled persons. Openness, tolerance
for otherness and empathy are all desirable personal traits of any
potential volunteers.
ATW in Czeszewo is able to host two volunteers at one time.
The volunteers will have the tutor's care assured during the project.
The tutor, as well the project coordinator, will be to help the
volunteer in any emergencies. In any such case the volunteer may solve
his/her problems with the help of the tutor, but if that is not enough
the project coordinator is to aid. Of course during the first days of
the project the volunteer will be told all the rules of health &
safety work in his/her host organisation and will learn the rules that
regulate the work of the 'Active Therapy Workshop in Czeszewo.
