Do an EVS project in an youth center in Spain

Do an EVS project in an youth center in Spain

Our specific interest is based on offering European volunteers the possibility to make contact with youth programmes by a local entity, which involve learning and training for them, and at the same time helps them to develop their abilities and create their own projects. It is also based on enabling both volunteers and local youngsters a direct relationship on behalf of both parties, thus becoming a rich and intense intercultural experience.

The Youth Service has the major aim to approach Europe to the local youth, promote values like solidarity, engagement, intercultural relations understood as richness and strong concept in a society where citizens from different origins live together; promote leadership and enterprising attitudes among the youth, and understand that local community is a place where values develop and benefit the population. European volunteering is thus framed in our organisation and our general interest to host volunteer is inside our main goals.  By promoting knowledge on other European realities through direct contact with the volunteer, we will avoid prejudice and xenophobic and racist attitudes, as well as facilitate acceptance of the others and improvement of values like solidarity

Criteria

This project is open to applications from any young person. The selection process is transparent, we have an open call through the e-mail, were we accept all applications. A multidisciplinary team integrated by the mentors, instructors, present volunteer and directive will asses the merits and motivations of each candidate, and will select the most appropriate one for the vacancy. We follow the rule that EVS should be a unique enriching experience for the volunteer and a contribution for the project

The volunteer, has to: - Attend the training sessions before during and alter the activity. - Read and understand the documentation on rights and obligations. - Give feed-back to the organisations involved about the project and activity on each phase. - Keep a flowing dialogue with the hosting organisation, in particular with the coordinator and mentor. - Report n any problem or improvement suggestion. - Carry out the agreed activities.

The Youth Service intends to offer service and learning opportunities to volunteers, mainly around the three major topics by the White Paper of European Youth: Information, Participation and Mobility.
Volunteers would participate in the activities of the three main areas described above, that could be summarised in the following, in general terms:
- Provide information on interesting topics for the youth.
- Promote leadership and innovation abilities of the youth, especially regarding the youthful associations and major issues for the European Union.
- Participation in the management of projects exchanging people and experience with other European countries where young people play the main role.
- Facilitate and support performance and activities of the youthful groups, collectives and associations at the municipality.
- Promote training activities of the youth regarding associations, European programmes, etc.
Además Apart from these activities in the centres, we would create a study table for possible new ways for youthful participation, both in the municipality and in the frame of the European Union. European volunteers and youth associations' delegates from Murcia will participate in this table
Specific activities are designed for the volunteers, which are describe on the next section.
Information
The volunteer will develop his/her activities at the Informajoven Centre. This service provides information on interesting issues for the youth and offers guidance on specific topics: sexuality, housing, rights, etc. With 20 years' experience, the information centre is particularly interested in new technologies, as a mean to promote integration of young people with difficulties, in informational decentralisation as a mean to facilitate access to young people away from urban centres and in direct participation of the youth to elaborate and distribute information.
The Cnetre has enough permanent staff, so the volunteer will not substitute any post, his/her tasks not being essential in the activities, but will enrich them.
The volunteer will learn techniques for delivering youth information, youth activities, opportunities provided from youth information centres to young people, European and international information networks. The volunteer will get to know the basic elements that configure youth information at a public centre, according to the European Youth Information Charter.
The volunteer will perform the tasks in direct contact with young people and always supported by the centre's staff. He/she will follow all training actions made by the centre during his/her stay.
Together with a cheerleader in the centre, volunteers will elaborate an informative dossier on European youth policies, emphasizing the European Youth programme. From this dossier the volunteer will elaborate a project of their own on European initiatives' divulgation among the local youth in Murcia and its associations. For this project, he/she will contact local associations and establish direct relationship with them and with the youth at the Youthful Information points that the Informajoven Centre has in Education Centres and youthful premises to detect needs and interests (around 25 % del total).
Two hours a day, two days a week, he/she will be in a youth information point inside the centre, to assist young people interested in these projects, and give information on the real opportunities to participate in them; he/she will also be of initial link with these entities to clarify doubts on the programme. These tasks will represent 30% of the total.
Distributing information through the Centre's web page, gathering information produced by young people for it's distribution.
These tasks will occupy 25 weekly hours (5 or 10% of the time).
Timetable: Monday to Friday, 09.00 to 14.00
09.00 to 09.30 Coordination meeting with the cheerleaders' team in the office.

2. - Youth Exchange Promotion Office
This Service offers local youngsters direct information and guidance on all European initiatives affecting them, particularly the Youth programme and other European and international organisms. This service manages youthful exchange programmes, work camps and international activities directly, and supports youthful local groups and associations to manage these programmes directly. The main aim is to approach European reality to the youth and then promote initiative and creativity, as well as participation and direct involvement in international projects. In order to achieve this aim, we facilitate tasks like searching for intermediaries, direct contact with them, help for the elaboration and management of projects… The major goal at this office is to promote youth mobility as a mean to facilitate initiative and develop tolerant and jointly shared behaviour.
The volunteer will learn and be trained especially all related to youth international projects, international organisms, international voluntary projects, etc. He/she will also learn on youth projects' management.
Tasks of the volunteer in the Youth Exchange Promotion Office
The volunteer will directly participate distributing the office activities, which involves one of the main tasks. This distribution will be possible by means of a project of his/her own, aimed at divulging initiatives related to international programmes that arrive here. This is a daily task, as the office receives continuous announcements and activities we have to transfer to young people and the youthful organisations. This task will be performed with the office personnel, who perform it every day.
The volunteer will also participate in:
I. - YOUTH EXCHANGES
- Contacts with intermediaries.
. Preparation of projects.

The volunteer will directly participate in all the international activities by the office and those that are interesting for him/her. He/she will also follow courses on international programmes' management and the Youth programme.
All these tasks are not substitution of a working post, as the Office for international exchange has stable structure and personnel independent from the volunteers' participation. Besides, we design specific tasks for these volunteers, which are never administrative and, of course, are not lucrative at all.
All volunteers will have three weeks holidays, in nine months' volunteering, on agreement of both parties, but preferably matching students' holidays.
3. - Youth spaces YESQUEROS and LA NAVE
These are two youth resource centres that Murcia Council offers youth in the city, managed by the Youth Participation Programme in the Youth and Sports Council. Since its beginning, in January 1987, its aim has been to create and develop equipment, infrastructure and resources for:
· Open spread and promotion channels to creative youth in different youth culture fields: music, theatre, photography, painting, sculpture, comics, etc.
· Facilitate resources and services to youth: youth information, documentation and guidance, lending technical material for youth activities, coordination of exchanges and European projects, etc.
· Promote and support development and activities of the youth groups, collectives and associations in the municipality.
In order to achieve these objectives, their performance and working method intends to coordinate initiatives and projects from youth, their collectives and associations efficiently, with resources provided by the municipality, always respecting youth main role.
This work is performed by means of a coordinator in each centre, in daily contact with young people and youth associations, knowing and supporting initiatives and projects they intent to make, and facilitating resources available.
Any young person, youth collective or association in the municipality has the two youth centres of YESQUEROS and LA NAVE at their disposal for performance, with the only requisites for the activities to be open, democratic, participative and non-profit making.
Tasks of the volunteers in the Youth Centres of La Nave y Yesqueros
Generally, tasks will be inside the frame of socio-cultural awakening, and in particular linked to
supporting youth associations in La Nave and Yesqueros, where cultural, free time and youth
information projects are performed. Besides, this centre provides the youth with lending of
material, rooms' reservation and other youthful resources to facilitate the performance of these
activities.

These tasks will involve most of the volunteers' work (around the 75%).
Besides, the volunteer will also collect information from entities and projects working on the Youth communitarian programme in their country, with the aim to look for intermediaries to make exchanges with the associations regarding the action scope at the youthful centre and also look for possible voluntary posts in his/her country.
These tasks will involve around the 25% of the total.
Timetable: Monday to Friday from 17.00 to 22.00 hours.
All these tasks are not substitution of a working post, as the centres have stable structure and personnel independent from the volunteers' participation. Besides, we design specific tasks for these volunteers, which are never administrative and, of course, are not lucrative at all.
