Youth work as volunteer in the pupils café domiziel in Görlitz, Germany
Youth work as volunteer in the pupils café domiziel in Görlitz, Germany
The volunteer takes part in the pupils' café programme.
A.
The work of the esta e.V. is related to Germany's most easterly town,
Görlitz, with 60,000 inhabitants. The geographical location is
characterised by the triangle of Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic.
The experience of the natural being together of people of different nationalities is necessary to live here.
The region is characterised by high unemployment as well as young
adult's moving away for work reasons. At the same time the town of
Görlitz with its buildings and the surroundings of the Oberlausitz
present a tourist attraction.
The situation leads to increased mutual endeavours, initiatives and in
positive cases to solidarity among active people, local authorities and
associations.
Leisure possibilities:
Visiting the many listed buildings, good opportunities for trips to
Poland and the Czech Republic by train and bus, good train connections
to Löbau, Zittau, Bautzen, Dresden and Berlin.
Swimming pool, many sports centres, cinema, disco, youth clubs.
B.
The volunteer takes part in the pupils' café programme. The volunteer
has the possibility to earn his mother tongue Polish in the project in
a playful way. He/She is able to develop his/her own concepts of
teaching the Polish language. By learning the neighbouring language
he/she opens the entry to the Polish culture and country for young
people. Part of the volunteer's work is playing with the pupils, doing
sports on the sports grounds and other activities.
After school care club:
Twice a week the volunteer works in the after school care club, which
is located in the same building. Most of the pupils come from schools
where children learn Polish from the first class on. The volunteer has
the possibility to plan and carry out his/her own activities under
guidance, for instance: get to know the Polish part of Görlitz,
visiting the Dom kultury, learning polish songs, contacting Polish
scouts or taking part in the Polish service of our church.
Because of the teamwork with voluntary workers in the association the
volunteer gets to know the chances and defiances of autonomous and
unsalaried commitment. We hope he/she will do so after the EVS. The
volunteer is an equal member of the association and takes part in staff
meetings and in common meals. He gets all information.
C.
profile:
- the volunteer should be open-minded to the Christian orientated values of the youth work
- he/she should be able to get in contact with children and young people easily
- he/she should be able to work independently and to cooperate with other members of the staff
Information:
- until now there is no information about job offers on our web site, this will be changed soon
- our coordinating organisation will make a first decision considering
the profile of the host organisation. After that the managing committee
will decide about the volunteer candidate.
sending organisation:
We like working together with sending organisations which work in the area of child and youth work.
D.
We would like to host volunteers from Romania because we have had
relationships as partners to Romania for years. These volunteers partly
come from economic disadvantaged families, have never been to another
country or have little language knowledge. This partly requires bigger
care efforts or we try to finance a language course before the EVS.
E.
At the beginning the volunteer get a map with all informations about
the YMCA( names and addresses of the staff, call numbers of the staff,
overview about the various projects, guidelines), which gives him the
possibility to orientate. The volunteer gets a mentor in the project.
During the staff meetings is the possibility to supervise the arranged
activities and to speak about problems.
