The person, interested in the project should have at least basic knowledge of French, be interested in European history and culture and to be highly motivated to become a volunteer.
A. Project environment: profile of the organisation and local community
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The European archeosite of Bliesbrück
The volunteers will be accomodated with other European volunteers in
Metz suburbs or in flats in Bliesbruck. During the weekends or in low
season, the volunteers can also join the Ambassy volunteers in Metz.
Bliesbruck is 90 km away from Metz and rather difficult to reach.
Bliesbruck already welcomes international volunteers or trainees for
several years, so the volunteer will not be the only "volunteer" on the
spot. The staff members are present all year round.
The transportation between the working place and the living place, as
well as local transportation will be taken in charge by the
coordinating and hosting association if necessary.
The House of Robert Schumann:
The Robert Schuman home is a cultural spot of the Conseil Général de
Moselle which allows to better know the founder of Europe through a
guided tour in his private house.
It is situated in Scy-Chazelles, a small town 8 km from Metz city. The
volunteer of this placement will live in a flat together with the other
European volunteers in 5 min from the House. The abonnement for local
transport will be also provided to the volunteer what will fascilitate
the travelling to different places.
The volunteers will be coordinated by the Together association which already runs numerous volunteers in the region.
A language training in French will be given by the coordination with help of interactive methods.
The coordinator of Together will be their mentor, but each volunteer
will receive an individual referee. This referee will have a daily
contact with the volunteer. The coordinator of Together will be a
support, but an everyday contact or when needed can be set up. The
coordinator will meet regularly the tutor. This place welcoming an EVS
for the 1st time, a deeper support will be organized for the start.
The volunteer service will organize campaigns to enhance Europe
recognition. The objectives will be several and will vary due to the
volunteers abilities, as well as the projects already running on the
different places. These places being open to the public, the activity
will vary following the seasons and the projects.
With the help of his tutor, the volunteer will find his own place in these activities.
The tutor responsible will be the director of Bliesbruck, Mr. Philippe
Brunella, or the director of Robert Schuman home, Mme Nadege Mougel.
B.Proposed activities for international volunteers
----------------------------------------------------------
To be multi-culturally and inter-culturally is important and represents
the basis why this volunteer programme has been chosen by the Conseil
Général.
The volunteer will bring an added value to the project at different key moments for the daily routine.
He will help the staff and by his personal experience, his questions
and his outside position, he will participate to the staff questioning.
The volunteer will bring a European added value to the project.
In the House of Robert Schumann:
Tasks due to the volunteer:
Reception and cultural mediation: contribution to the reception, guided
tours, (in English, French and following the volunteer language
abilities other languages could be used), setting up of guided tours,
general or thematic, preparation of more specific visits for a young
public, organisation of pedagogical workshops, events organization
(week for Europe, exhibitions, concerts, discovery day of another
European country). These actions will be handled together with the
hosting association and the pedagogical staff.
Scientific tasks: showing up the collections (historical items,
archives, …). The volunteer will evolve together with a young and
dynamic staff, open to different cultures. The volunteer will promote
the European idea to the school and adult public through the site
discovery. Autonomy and initiatives are recommended.
Some examples of workshop proposed:
"Petite graine de jardinier" the little gardener
The children will discover the different vegetables, flowers and fruits
which are in the garden thanks to the smell and touch. Afterwards, they
will learn some basic facts about gardening : seeding in small pots,
growing vegetables at school or at home.
Public : from 3 to 6 years old.
Duration : 1h30
Participants : maximum 15
"Mon herbier" plant collection
The little garderners discover the plants in the garden (flowers,
aromatic plants, …). Afterwards, they will put together their own
collection in a small book.

All these workshops are connected with a game discovery of the house.
In the European archeosite of Bliesbrück:
There several types of activities in the archiosite in order to
preserve archeology that are divided into several axes. We will propose
to our European volunteers to discover all the axes of our activities
due to intergating them successively into different fields for the
period of time of 2-6 months for every axe.
Hosting the visitors (about 2 months)
Leaded by public responsible, Mme Sandrine Metzger, the activities may look the following way:
- The tasks, connected with the hosting of public : providing with
information about the parc and other touristic sites.
- The tasks, connected with the shopping space : decoration, arranging
and revision of the production, sensibilisation of the public towards
the nature of the production, especially during the innagurations.
- The tasks, connected with answering the phone: to answer and provide the information to those who call.
The foreign origin of a European volunteer will reinforce the
international dimension of the Park and will give it the possibility to
come in an everyday contact and better understanding of not only the
Franco-German environment.
Public Service (about 4 months)
This axe is ensured by a qualified assistant Melle Alexandra Vincent,
and it is directed towards the spreading around to a wider public, and
this service will accompany the school students, children in outdoor
centres, adults and individual visitors of the park.
The young volunteer will participate to:
The organisation of new visit ways and will also make better the
existing ways in order to link with the working staff and the teacher.
His different way of seeing the reality and his own culture are advantages in the frame of our quality of standards.
During the season time and after a preparatory phase, the volunteer
will participate to the visit organised by our service. He will ensure
guided visits from groups in the park and workshops for kids.
Regarding to his knowledge and specific experience, the volunteer could
lead workshops that he could imagine and create. It is important to
stress the fact that there is no in Bliesbruck the visits or " typical
" animations to write and to learn. Every guide find in fonction of his
sensibility the way he wants to transmit what he has understood from
archeology.
Research " axe " of archeology (6 months)
The research activity is in the center of the parc. Framed by a
preserving of the inheritage. Miss Casadebaigthe will organise grabbing
and organsie the treatment of the archeological informations. We
porpose to the young volunteer to participate :
to the campaign of grabbing on place for an initiation on archeological
practice. The volunteer will have the possibility to initiate all the
aspects of the grabbing , topography, photographys, recording of datas.
To the treatement phase under the form of :
-washing and clening restauration of collections and updates
-to informatise the datas, manual draws of objects etc…
Of course, regarding ot the competences of the volunteer one or another
aspect will be developped with an internal training provided by the
structure for (example on computer skills).
The projects will be developped together with youngsters, children and adults looking for a cultural and european development.
These different places count several employees. A tutor, a pedagogical
responsible will help the volunteers to accompany them and to support
them during their service.
Staff members are numerous on the different spots, either
administrative, pedagogical, tourist-oriented personnel. In the park of
Bliesbruck-Rheinheim there are 24 employees, and apart from that up to
25-30 volunteers, students, and researchers are working there during a
year.
The House of Robert Schuman includes the following staff:
-an office-worker, responsable for the site
-an assistant, qualified in inheritage preservance
-a territorial redactor
- two estate agents
-un garderner (and his practicatnts)
During the full-time opening of the site (that is from 1st April till 31st of October), we have additionally, for the year 2008:
-two temporarly agents half-time employed
-several practicants (5)
-one full-time summer period employee
The volunteer will be an active support in order to help in his
personal development and getting new abilities, but he will be in no
way a replacement working force.
Moreover, considering his abilities, the volunteer will have the
opportunity to develop personal projects together with his tutor. The
volunteer will be active on the site, but in some cases, but for
different demonstrations or projects, he could be asked to realize
projects in other places from the Conseil Général. The Ambassy
coordination also ask the help of volunteers for common promotion
actions during the EVS.
It is also possible to develop a personal project related to the needs of the association and the volunteer abilities.
The volunteer will take part in the staff meeting and to the different
activities preparation for which the volunteer will be active.
The project allows the volunteer to develop numerous knowledge about
language, culture and more generally he will get a non-formal
apprenticeship. He will be able to develop several abilities, be able
to become more autonomous and get a bigger self-esteem. With the
volunteers' coordination, the association Together will set a tool for
the auto-evaluation, the Youthpass and therefore, regular group
meetings and more individual thinking on how to acquire new competences
will take place.
C. Volunteer profiles and recruitment process
------------------------------------------------------
We wish to welcome a volunteer who will bring an added value to the
project. Therefore, we want him to be really volunteer and be
interested by the project and he will develop a dynamic bringing some
kind of added value to the staff and to the visitors he will meet.
These youngsters will have the willingness to develop themselves in a
multicultural environment and will be able to be volunteering in a
structure receiving lots of tourists. Easy contacts with the public are
therefore a necessity.
Autonomy, responsible wise and good organisation are very important.
Basis in French or in German will facilitate a better integration, but
are not mandatory and some computer knowledge, as well as some tourism
knowledge is welcome.
An important asset is to have historical knowledge and develop a particular interest for the European construction.
The volunteer will be in contact with the public and will be
responsible wise. He will be able to valorise the programme and EVS
more specially.
D. Special needs (if applicable)
---------------------------------------
If the volunteer has special needs, these will be looked at deeply
before his arrival and for this, it is important that the preparation
will be looked thoroughly by the sending association in order to let
the project be ready for him.
E. Risk prevention, safety and protection
-------------------------------------------------
Risk prevention and crisis management are very important in this
project and to make it more efficient several meetings will happen
before the EVS. The volunteer will be carefully integrated in the
environment and we will try to meet his needs.
The responsible of the sending organisation, as well as the hosting and
coordination associations will be in regular contacts with the
volunteer family. It will be possible to get contacts with any of them
at every moment in case of problems. The tutors already participated to
such projects and are prepared for this work. They will fully bring
their personnal support to the volunteer. In case of major problem, we
also have contacts with specialists and we will try to solve them or
reduce the risks.
