EVS action for disadvantaged youths and children from Germany has one free place
The candidate we had chosen for our EVS long-term project has canceled his participation, therefore we are looking for an open minded youngster ready to get in touch with young people most of them from migrant families.
A.
The Boxcamp gives directionless youth with violence, aggression ad
addiction problems the chance to learn new values and a different
structure of life outside their current surroundings and to integrate
these into their daily lives. The Boxcamp offers the youth a framework
in which they can learn to deal with their aggression and in addition
gain a feeling for fairness, self-discipline, boundaries and rules.
The Boxcamp offers other sporting acitvities too, e.g. runners
training, basketball and football and leisure activities like joint
excursions.
The Boxcamp club is an open space where young people can communicate
and to exchange views. They always find someone to talk about everyday
problems and sorrows and the Boxcamp provides support in developping
solutions and strategies by means of single or group sessions.
The volunteer will be instructed by the head of the Boxcamp Peter
Gräber. The Integration into the project should enable the volunteer to
practice tolerance and to acquire personal independence. The broad
range of sporting and leisure time activities provide a setting that
makes it easy for the volunteer to orientate and integrate quickly.
Among the sporting acitvities the volunteer will be given the opportunity to attend measures of Youth and Social work.
The volunteer will live in a shared appartment with other
EVS-volunteers and will have the chance to have an intercultural
exchange. In equal measure tolerance and mutual respect will be
fostered and required.
B.
The EVS project is directed to youth who want to use the experience
abroad in the EVS to make something out of it themselves. A European
volunteer can be included in the work of the Boxcamp and at the same
time train in sport. The project is also suitable for disadvantaged
youth.
There is the option taking part in a training leader qualification. The
EVS project is directed to youth who want to use the experience abroad
in the EVS to make a commitment and to experience themselves in a
different cultural surrounding. The European volunteer can be included
in the work of the Boxcamp and at the same time train in sport. The
project is also suitable for disadvantaged youth. The integration in
the Boxcamp project should help the volunteer to learn tolerance and
independence. As well as sporting activities the measures in the area
of youth social work can be accompanied.
The volunteer should participate in the following Boxcamp activities:
team meeting, bar duty, organisation, creation, assignment, work
organisation, organisation of the training and particular offers
(fitness, running meeting, stamina boxing), training together with the
youth
The volunteer can be involved in all the Boxcamp activities. Personal
wishes or demands will be considered if possible. The volunteer can
cooperate in the preparation of leisure activities (holiday programmes,
trips etc) or competitions. The staff also provides other social
support for the young people who regularly come to the Boxcamp e.g. in
looking for a flat, work matters, debt advice etc. Depending on
interests and skills of the volunteers they can introduce their own
ideas to the Boxcamp and the accompanying social offer. We plan for the
volunteer to train together with the youth (e.g. running meeting,
boxing or cheerleading). The youth support each other, younger learn
from older.
Occasional weekend activities e.g. sport events, competitions. Once a
month participation in the 'Youth' work meeting of the Internationaler
Bund (IB) in Kassel.
The tasks may vary according to the skills and interests of the volunteer.
If the volunteer is interested in developing an own project e.g.
preparation and running of a sporting event e.g. a competition, then
the ideas and cooperation with the host organisation and administrator
will be discussed in detail and the volunteer given where possible the
necessary support for the realisation of their own ideas.
The volunteer is a member of the staff and therefore a kind of role-model for the youngsters.
C.
The candidate should be between 18-30 years. It is important that the
volunteer should be ready to get in touch with young people, should be
interested in sports and physical education and have a certain
commitment to the idea of volunteering. Although it is not necessary
that he/she is already acquainted with working in an NG-Organisation,
previous experiences in volunteering activities and/or NGO's will be
very helpful. The volunteer should have a basic knowledge of German.
First of all we inform organisations with whom we had previous
partnerships or contact about vacancies. If volunteers or sending
organisations ask about vacancies they are generally informed within
one week about vacancies and the time schedule of selection. In case
that we don't have any candidate we contact our National Agency for
support.
If a volunteer hands in his application we contact him or her first of
all in most cases via e-mail to give him/her a first feed-back and to
clear possibly remaining questions. Every suitable application is
discussed with the responsible in the project and we then arrange a
telephone interview with the volunteer candidate to get e personal
impression. We encourage him to contact the project and/or the actual
volunteer to get to know more about it. After this contact we make the
final decision and inform the volunteer about the outcome and if there
had been previous contact also the sending organisation.
During the above described selection process we already match the
volunteers profile and interests with the activity by giving all sides
the opportunity to know as much about the each othert as possible.
Along with this we already develop a personal schedule for the
volunteers acitivity and a perspective what his/her specific
contribution to the project might be.
No special skills are required for getting involved into the IB
volunteering programs. As above mentioned the volunteer should be
sportive and dispose of German. Besides as he/she is going to work with
young migrants he/she should be open to this target group.
D.
The IB Kassel and respectively the Boxcamp provides an establishes
network of professional youth and social workers who are trained and
experienced in working with disadvantaged youth and we can therefore
provide an intense support and mentoring of the volunteer.
E.
Volunteers will be given advice on crisis prevention and management
during on-arrival training. They will also be provided with 24 hour
emergency phone numbers. The Co-ordinating organisation will hold all
necessary personal information and emergency contact details for each
volunteer.
We have acknowledged the results and respect the recommendations of the
Working Group on Risk Prevention and Crisis Management about European
Voluntary Service.
