Project duration is 10 months. Volunteers will organize the activity with the Administration of the State Historical-Architectural Reserve “Icherisheher” under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan(Old Baku-capital of Azerbaijan). The Administration was established in accordance to the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2005 with the aim to preserve Icherisheher territory as an important architectural complex, create legal basis to ensure its socio-economical development, also to increase the state care for protection historical-architectural monuments within the territory and to develop management system of Icherisheher. The Administration is given the legal status equal to one of the Ministry or the State Committee pursuant to the Presidential Decree establishing it, is fully staffed and functional, and has 4 entities within its structure that enable it to fulfill its mandate. The Administration combines the function of a local executive power (municipal authority) and central executive power agency.

    Volunteers will organize social and cultural activities in the territory of Administration of the State Historical-Architectural Reserve “Icherisheher (old Baku). They will have active role in planning their own work and possibility to attend other areas of the host organization’s activities.  Also they will present their projects and EVS in general in events organized by AYAFE.

The main task of the volunteers will be to organise various educational and cultural activities for cultural diversity and heritage protection. Although the volunteers will have some freedom in deciding the final programme to be set up, the programme will include workshops on cultural diversity and heritage protection for students, NGO workers and museum/heritage site employees, Action Days- presentations of monuments on the territory of Administration of the State Historical-Architectural Reserve “Icherisheher” and their activities and ideas for heritage protection for local and international volunteers, organzing interactive Museum Tours enhancing the impact on musuem visitors to enlarge their knowledge about their own culture and cultures in their country, organzing National Cultural Action Weeks fostering dialogue on culture and diversity and supporting the protection of a historical monuments, participation in preparation work on fectivals, national holidays with Administration of the State Historical-Architectural Reserve “Icherisheher”  and some other social activities together with AYAFE volunteers. AYAFE, as well as staff of Administration of the State Historical-Architectural Reserve “Icherisheher” will support the volunteers activity. Some administrative tasks such as writing daily reports will also be undertaken by volunteers.

Icherisheher (the Walled City of Baku) with the Shirvanshah’s Palace and Maiden Tower was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2000 on the basis of the Criterion (IV): The Walled City of Baku represents an outstanding and rare example of a historic urban ensemble and architecture with the influence from Zoroastrian, Sassanian, Arabic, Persian, Shirvani, Ottoman and Russian cultures.

The host organization will help volunteers to prepare the timetable for the activities, keep close contact with volunteers and give all support they may need during their voluntary activity. Trought EVS-project the communities, organizations involved, EVS-volunteers and local volunteers will have possibilitiers for intercultural learning and will develop new methods to work in this area. AYAFE is working directly with Administration of the State Historical-Architectural Reserve “Icherisheher   and feel that EVS-volunteers will bring an important additional benefit to this work.
