The volunteer will live at Barkava VSS hostel, by mutual agreement in families of the board members. Once a week will take part in the work of other organisations of Barkava. All the work will be connected with youth and children, except charity activities, when there would be old people.
The course of the work social and culture sphere, actually,
efficient and pithy organisation of free time, where they are
initiators, participants and responsible about practical tasks. At least
twice a week there are provided activities for the local society (
joint works, concerts, exhibitions, seminar programs, questionnaires,
spreading the information ) For preparing and collecting the information
there are provided consultations with municipality and state
institutions local and regional authorities, scientists from the
reserve, representatives of schools, region etc. Two days a week are
foreseen for free time and individual plans. State holidays are free too
as well as school holidays, when the volunteer can organise his own
time and activities.

The weekends will be free time. It is also possible, to give extra off
days to the volunteer if he or she would like to travel or meet other
people during the weekends and he will need one more day off. If there
is an agreement before, it should be absolutely not that problem.
Studies - individual and collective - means, that there are planned
studies - of the language, its history, traditions, main aspects etc, as
well as history of the country, social and economical questions, which
volunteer will study individually together with his mentor any other
person, or participate in these activities together with group of other
students (group work) during interest club activities(chorus, floristic,
folk dancing group etc.), preparation youth exchange projects,
participation in other placement projects, trips, sport and
professional competitions, lections or seminars both at school and out
of school.
Actually, the volunteer will have quite a free hand to have creative
work in carrying out-of-school activities and projects, realizing his
initiative together with our students. The volunteer will have
possibilities to choose those activities and ways which he considers to
be more acceptable.
In the beginning of the project there might be some misunderstandings
because of language difference, so sign language lessons of Latvian
will more intensive, in order to stimulate faster volunteer's
integration into school community.
Volunteer should not be afraid of possible rejection by youngsters at
school. As our school has many partners in other countries, students are
used to communicate with foreigners, and usually they are quite active
to start the contact. Most of our youngsters are creative, pure - minded
and open for new ideas.
Every week the volunteer will get reflection meetings with school deputy
director responsible for out of school activities, project coordinator,
his/her tutor, and other specialists (with whom volunteer will work
directly). These meetings will help to follow volunteer's integration
and learning process, as well during those meeting will be discussed and
made innovations, improvements of volunteer's activities.

EVS to all young people. Consider further information about the type of
Sending Organisation you want to cooperate with. This information can
help the match-making between volunteer candidates, Sending
Organisations and your organisation.
There are no limits applying to gender and age. The school is not a
closed organisation, no religious prejudices. The preferable languages -
English, German, Russian, because the Russian language is widespread in
this area.
The only request is that volunteer must love children or at least
willing to work with children/youth that has same disability, too or
come from family at social risk. Volunteer should be ready for a
challenge to get used to life in the community of different country and
culture.
Volunteer is expected to be positive, open-minded, flexible, friendly, helpful, warm-hearted.
He/ she have to be active, taking initiatives, responsible and reliable.
Motivation to host volunteer:
" Firstly we have some experience working with foreign volunteer,
learning about their culture, traditions and communicating in foreign
language. We think that all volunteers bring new changes to the
organisations/institutions they come, so we want our pupils and staff to
learn new things and gain new experience together with the volunteer.
We hope for new inspiration and look at our daily work/life from a
different point of view.
" To continue working with Youth programme Action 2 (and with other actions later on);
" The idea is to know each other better by living and working together,
by breaking stereotypes, by decreasing xenophobia, by promoting
tolerance and peace, to become more sensitive to other culture, other
religion;
" To give opportunity for school pupils and students and teachers study
different culture, to learn some new words, to give some new experience
valuable in future;
" To stimulate new international co-operation of our school pupils and
teachers together with volunteers and organisations from their
countries;
" To give space and place for volunteer personal growing, for gaining
knowledge, experience, intercultural understanding; to learn
from/together/with volunteer.
We want to offer:
" Possibility to work with youth (16)18 - 24 y.o. (we have students with hearing disability, too)
" To join and lead activities volunteer sees interesting to learn and
share experience; the volunteer will be encouraged to bring his/her own
ideas and initiative to the students he/she will work by various
activities such as arts, dancing, singing, making crafts etc.; volunteer
will be asked to use creativity and experience. If volunteer finds some
additional field of activity (teaching children and local people
foreign languages, games, music, sport, visits to museum or any other
activities indoor and outdoor), which she/he wants develop as personal
initiative in project she/he will have special support for this;
" space to share volunteer's culture (language lessons, cultural events)
for the secondary school group's pupils and community youth;
presenting his/ her home country and its culture will be a part of
intercultural learning (volunteer will be asked to be ready provide with
information and showing about her/his country in creative way);
" use technical base of the school (video and audio equipment, computer
classroom, hall, sport hall and sport fields, transport equipment);
" According volunteer's abilities and wishes (at least 3-4 hours per
week) he/she will be taught basics of sign-language of Latvian and will
be able to practice with students and staff of the school daily;
" Volunteer will work 5 - 7 hours per day,4-5 days per week. Working and
free time schedule will be discussed and set together with volunteer.
The volunteer will have 2 days (2, 5) off per week either during the
week) Monday or Friday) or at weekend. In the beginning volunteer will
be introduced to the activities, which take place after school from
15.00 till 19.00. (School starts at 8.30 and finishes from 13.20. to
15.45 depending on the schedule for different group youngsters.) After
school: on Monday - computers, languages for pupils, sign language or
"words in world of silence", languages courses for adults on Tuesdays
"Library day", languages for pupils, floristic and applied arts lessons;
on Wednesdays; languages for adults, sports, preparing for school's
cultural measures, on Thursdays - computers, sports, applied arts, and
florists; on Fridays - sign language and sports. Later on the volunteer
together with teachers will set own schedule, including meeting younger
children in Barkava Basic school after the schools for various games and
elder youngsters for sport, educative and animation activities like
painting, theatre, volunteer's native language promotion activities.
Some days volunteer can devote more time to sport activities and some
days can be devoted only to educative or animation work. This will
depend on volunteer interests and abilities. Volunteer will have
possibility to prepare and have meals together with youngsters;
" Volunteer will be guided and supported by local resources.
Co-ordinating organisation hosts and organises a lot of various projects
so volunteer can visit activities and organisation any time and she/he
can easily find friends among projects participants or members of our
organisation. We will also provide with information about places or
events within the interest of volunteer;
" each week there will be reflection session of volunteer's integration and activity process;
" Accommodation and board. Volunteer will live in schools dormitory, but
will have separate flat and private space. Volunteer will have meals 3-
4 times a day at school's canteen together with other students and
teachers, who live in the school hostel, due to long distance to their
home.

During the project the volunteer will guided and assisted by young
school tutor, who has certain activities with youngsters; at the same
time the volunteer will be able to explore school life by
himself/herself - attend classes and any activities of his/her interest
(if he/she needs interpreter's help during any phase of activities,
interpreter will be provided (according school schedule different
teachers will be able to assist). After getting introduced to the school
life, volunteer will arrange his/her schedule of activities which will
be integrated into school's schedule.
Later on, depending on volunteer's abilities and wishes he/she will run
own activities with youngsters according own schedule. If there will be
the need of assistance, the volunteer will have particular person to
help during activities. Volunteer will be able to decide to join
different activities of school led by other teachers, so in this case
volunteer will learn and lead those activities together with
specialists.
