A. Project environment

The Nuresery School is sittuated in the Gdynia (250.000 inhabitans) by the Baltic Sea. Gdynia builds, together with the cities of Gdañsk and Sopot, the so called Tricity. It is (approximately 800 000 citizens) the biggest aglomeration in the Pomeranian region and therefore has a lot of actvities to choose from. Apart from its multicultural history Tricity offers beautiful beaches that are croweded in summer by foreginers as well as Polish tourists. As there are a few universities a lot of young Polish people are attracted by the city and start their studies here. That is why Tricity offers a lively nightlife. Besides, it has plenty of cultural activities (theatres, concerts and an opera), about 10 cinemas can be found and pubs, clubs and discos for every taste.

The organization is located in the district called Babie Do³y -the northernmost district in Gdynia with 2400 inhabitants. It is a small, cosy district, sourranded with the woods, few minutes walk from the see side. It is around 20 minutes by bus from the centre of Gdynia.

The Nuresery School is located next to the primary school and the marines unit.

B. Proposed activities for EVS volunteers

The EVS volunteer have a possibility for free and gradual adjustment into our organization. The project is devided into three phases: getting to know the workers, children and the place; observation and participation in all the activities; organization of own activites / workshops with the supervision of the teacher e.g. country prezentation.

The work with the children in this age is very satisfactory and brings a lot of joy. Children are very spontaneous and curious.

Volunteer have a possibility to get to know our working methods, technics and tools. S/he has a possibility for consultations with the professional staff. The volunteer is taking part in all the phases of work with children - eating and cleannes training, teaching work, plays, walks and tours.
The big advantage of our organization is a contact with children with different kinds of disabilities in a different extension. Volunteer can learn communication, taking care and education process in all the child's development spheres. Volunteer is also free to take part in some extra educational activites like: religion lessons, English lessons, speech therapeutic activities or help in work on fine-arts, musical, theatre and dancing abilities of children.

Extra activites of our organization create a chance to get to know us, the children and also their parents better, which can be a platform for learning the Polish menthality and custums. The volunteer will experience a lot of activities connected with the Polish custums like: nursery school pupil initiation, fortune-telling on St. Andrews day, St.Nicolaus day, Christmass Eve - Christamass carol meeting, carnival ball, Granmather and Grandfather's Day, spring greeting, Mather's and Father's Day, family fest and Child's Day.

We wish the volunteer to feel well in our School, that is why we are open for his/her proposals, which concider cooperation. We offer to the volunteer possibility for development of own hobbies and passions. We are also open and curious about cultural diversity. We support all activites of the volunteer willing to share with his/her culture and own interests with our children.

Volunteer can practice Polish language in everyday contact with children.


The examples of the volunteers tasks are:
- active participation during the whole working day (help during the activities, supervision during the eating and cleanness training and during the exercices, creation of teaching materials),
- organizing plays with children,
- proposing them free time activities,
- supervision of children's work and behaviour,
- organizing some thematic activities with the supervision of the teacher like: showing own hobby or own country and culture,
- help in organizing some ceremonies (parties, special days etc.),
- organizing games, shows, inscenizations, exhibitions, teaches the poem/ song, makes relaxation activity, drama plays, teacher few words in own language etc.

Our Nursery gives a lot of possibilities for children and we are doing our best to make time spend with our children attractive and good for them - the same we expect from the volunteer.

The volunteer will work up to 6 hours a day. The exact hours will be established with the specific volunteer according to the actual needs of the organization. After few weeks of getting to know the organization there will be a possibility for the volunteer to infuence the decission making process about the specific group of children s/he gets involved in.

C. Volunteer profiles and recruitment process

The candidate for the volunteer should like children and have easy contact with them. It is important that the person is open and cheerful, as children feel well in such a company. We expect active and resourceful cadidates. Extra advantage is if the volunteer is interested in pedagogy and is willing to exchange the oppionions, methods and technics.

It is welcome if the volunteer has basic English language skills and is willing to study Polish, which would help a lot in daily life of a volunteer and will enable him/her to be more involved into the organization's life.
