Evs opportunities at European Meeting Centre from Poland
European Meeting Centre – Nowy Staw Foundation, a non – governmental organisation is looking for a volunteers, who are going to work in the media, youth information and intercultural communication fields.
A. Project environment: profile of the organisation and local community
Lublin, the city where our organisation is situated is a city of 360
000 inhabitants. Lublin is situated in the South - East Poland and it`s
the biggest city on this side of Vistula River. Lublin is a student
city as we have 5 public Universities here and many many branches of
some private ones. During college year we have here 50 000 students
also foreign ones. For that reason Lublin is a culturally reach place.
There are many precious monuments and unique buildings worth visiting.
In Lublin we have plenty NGOs and other local initiatives mostly
educational and cultural. Spring time is a time for Student`s Festivals
and numerous cultural events.
Lublin is situated 180 km far away from Warsaw, capital of Poland. You
can get there easily using public transport. More or less same distance
is between Lublin and Lviv in Ukraine.
Our organisation is well known in local community though especially in
frames of institutional cooperation. We are partners in various local
and national project. We are also well recognised among students and
institutions working for them. In the future we would like to increase
our local activities and become more recognisible for smaller
communities from our region.
B. Proposed activities for EVS volunteers
Our organisation is a quite big NGO with small departaments within
itself. We have Information Centers, Citizen Media Center,
International Youth Cooperation Center and many more areas in which a
volunteer may find opportunities to learn various things. Most often
though we have been offering EVS volunteers "working places" withing
International Youth Cooperation Center and Citizen Media Center. We
plan to stick to these areas as they offer the biggest learning
opportunities.
Citizen Media Center gives volunteers unique opportunities to learn new
things connceted with the world of media. Examples of the activities
would be: preparing and organising media workshops, coorganising movie
festival, helping media groups that are organising youth projects,
movie - making (shooting cutting, post production), working in the
groups of journalists working on the "Prioritaire!" magazine, preparing
and co - cordinating media camps, management of www.ngotv.eu and
www.eds-fundacja.pl websites, making media and photo documentation of
various projects run by our organisation, working with the internal
group of media coordinators.
Role of volunteers in mentioned activities will be various on the
various stages of the project. At the beginning he will learn how to
work with media and how to use them as a tool to work with young people
and to activate them. Later on he will be overtaking more and more
control. By taking part in mentioned activities a volunteer will learn
how to teach other people how to use media tools in youth work, will
become familiar with media techniques (working with movie, pictures,
websites, making life streaming, post production etc.), learn how to
work with the concept, how to cooperate with the group, plan and manage
individual working time and finally will also get to know specifif of
media work within our organisation, local media market and between
citizens media centers we cooperate with.
Within International Youth Cooperation Center EVS volunteer will have
an opportunity to taste a wide range of activities that he may get
involved in. From helping in organising various projects within YOUTH
IN ACTION and Polish German Youth Cooperataion Programmes through
coordinating parts of activities, helping in cordinating group of local
volunteers till the possibility of realising his/her own ideas.
C. Volunteer profiles and recruitment process
We are open for boys and girls in the age from 18 till 30 that are
willing to use their creativity in empowering our activities and
increasing their own skills. We are unfortunately not prepared
technically and practically to host disabled people.
Within our vision of EVS we are having different possibilities to
create actions for people with different skills and needs. Each time
such project is created a draft of it will be send to potential partner
orgabisations all together with the link to EI. Also a clear deadline
for applications will be marked in such open call. We would like to
avoid situations when candidates for voluteers aply in the very last
moment as we believe that especially now withing YOUTH IN ACTION good
communication between partners is a crucial thing. Our already tested
way of selection looks as follow. we are setting 3 deadlines. One is
for volunteers to let them know by which time they shall send their
applications. The other one is for us as a Hosting Organisation (Or
Coordinating one) to make aa final selection and third one is a
deadline by which all the partners shall finish working on the
application and internal agreement.
The form of the applications also depends on the project. Basically we
accept regular CV (also depending on the project we will ask to write
it in English or Polish) and motivation letter. The form of motivation
letter may be a bit extraordinary in order to show motivation and
inspiration of a potential volunteer to take part in our project. This
could be a survey in which we will ask to answer few questions, or a
request to prepare foto presentation (power point or paper one)
We are opened for new partners, also such ones that have not a big
experience in EVS (especially when it comes to having them as Sending
Organisation). We are ready to be guides in the small labirynt of
projects within EVS. What we require from partners for sure is a great
level of commitment and communication.
E. Risk prevention, safety and protection
Please describe how you will guarantee a safe living and working
environment for the EVS volunteers, how you will prevent risks and
crises and how - in the case of EVS volunteers aged 16 or 17 - you
ensure appropriate supervision, child safety and protection.
Working a lot with international groups and in international
environment we are fully aware of the importance of the intercultural
differences and influence they have on people. Hosting a foreigner in
your country as a volunteer means not only providing him or her with
activities and tasks, but also taking care of the atmosphere around the
whole event. That is why we have highlighted the importance of good and
effective communication between partners. It is crucial to discuss
details concerning activities, tasks and to make expectations and needs
of all sides to meet in the halfway.
At the beginning we are going to make a introduction meeting with all
the workers of the foundation to let a volunteer to get to know all
people he will be working with. Volunteers will be clearly informed to
whom to turn to in case of emergency or just in case of any need to
talk or discuss different issues. Inside the organisation there will be
a person responsible for technical things connected with the project
and a separate one responsible for the realisation of tasks and
activities. Once in a while we plan to make short evaluation meetings
that will take oral or written form - depending on volunteer and
specific project. Volunteer will be clearly informed about his duties
and tasks and also about our duties toward him.
Pocket money, money for local transport and for food will be paid out
monthly. Volunteer will be asked to cook for himself for breakfast and
dinner. Possible places and ways of getting a lunch during a work will
be presented in the first period. Volunteer will have free weekends and
holidays during his EVS project.
We do not plan neither to host nor send young people under 18 years old.
