EVS opportunities for 6 young people to be involved in one Italian NGO's activities
EVS opportunities for 6 young people to be involved in one Italian NGO's activities
The project activities will take place not only inside of the school buildings but the volunteers will also run activities of non-formal education in the Municipal Art Gallery with children and tourists, and as cultural mediator and language facilitators in the medical ambulatory for immigrants supporting their own staff.
TDM 2000 has decided to become a hosting organization 3 years ago. We
thought, and after the experience we have made we are sure, that the
volunteer can help our community to be more open minded concerning the
other cultures and to cut down stereotypes. We have already noticed it,
during our last projects. The positive effects are already coming out,
so we are really enthusiastic of these results and we want to continue
hosting volunteers. The success of the project in itself, with all the
people which are involved in, has contributed to make more visible the
activity of TDM 2000. Also on this side we are starting to see some
results: some other organizations (public and private) are asking us to
host volunteers for their projects. We are evaluating these
possibilities and the projects that they propose because we want to be
sure about the relevance of them for the volunteers and for the local
community. Also after the first volunteer we have started cooperation
with public bodies working in the field of youth policies (like the
Youth Centre of the Municipality of Cagliari…) and to improve the
cooperation with old partners (like the University of Cagliari…), the
cooperation is continuing and the presence of new volunteers will
foster it and will lead to new partnerships.
We want to give to young foreigners an opportunity to make an
experience of life which will be impressive for them and for building
up their future. We strongly believe that a formative experience of
this kind (non formal intercultural learning experience) helps
everybody to achieve maturity and to understand what they want for
their life. It helps to be more independent and to get integrated in
the social life: if you succeed in integrating in a foreign country
with different culture, it could be easier understanding how to get
integrated in every context. During the project the volunteer will also
have the opportunity to achieve some skills useful for their future
employment.
The projects will be part of the planned activity of the association,
therefore everybody is involved with more or less responsibility. The
volunteers that we have already hosted have been really wonderful
people and it has been a great experience for all the subjects involved
in the project and also for all the members of the association. They
all were fully integrated. They have met a lot of people from every
age: young people, our families, public authorities, journalists. They
have received compliments from everyone. They have also been asked for
some jobs! They have many new friends and our association has gained
some more visibility with youngsters and with public and private bodies
also. We are not expecting to have "copies" of the volunteers that we
have had because each person is different, but we are sure that also
the new ones will affect positively our projects and our minds.
We thought that the presence of volunteers could have helped us to
involve young people of our community in our activities and moreover to
spread the idea of the voluntary service as an experience of life that
helps the personal growth. Again our expectations have been satisfied.
During the last year we have reached much more youngsters and we have
some volunteers ready to go abroad for his/her own EVS project. Our
volunteers have helped a lot in this success talking with them about
their experience and motivation.
The volunteer will take new fresh ideas to our activities and we will
have the opportunity to plan and implement projects together with the
sending organization implementing the number of reliable partners.
Exchanging the roles all the advantages showed are valid also for the
volunteers that we will send.
We plan to apply for the first EVS project of these new Programme for
the closest deadline available after the approval of the EI and we plan
to start the project not before January 2008. Because of this we are
already working with some partners organizations and with some possible
volunteers. We will have projects of different length. We are opened to
the needs of the volunteers, we have some ideas (expressed below) but
we will write the project taking into consideration needs and
agreements among volunteer, sending organization, us and eventually the
hosting organization if we will be the coordinators.
TDM 2000 is a political, independent, non profit organisation with
educational aims that manage young people willing to participate in the
volunteer sector.
TDM 2000 promotes personal development of young people through the
realisation of activities which are implemented at a local and
international level.
It contributes to the development of personal and professional skills
organizing training courses and involving the participants in practical
experiences of life that allow sharing and exchanging of ideas,
opinions and experiences. TDM 2000, also encourages young people to
express themselves and foster the consciousness of each one's skills
through arts and performances. We also work to foster cooperation among
public bodies like local municipalities and the regional government
with their counterparts at the international level.
TDM 2000 was born in the summer of 2000. The activities it undertakes
include the organization of various multicultural projects according to
the aim of enhancing Sardinia (its culture and its territories). The
organization and the realization of these projects contribute to
development of young people by broadening their understanding of
cultural differences and by making them responsible for the activities
that they undertake. The new members are involved in the activities
step by step and supported from some members with more experience. We
organize two big reception projects: International Summer Week (ISW)
and International Winter Week (IWW). Both are aimed at intercultural
integration and exchange and gather together more then 100 youth from
around the world. ISW is realized in Sardinia and IWW is organized
abroad as it aims to promote regions of Europe that are not so well
known from youngsters around the world.
In the frame of the Youth Programme we were also hosting organization
through the European Voluntary Service (our HEI is expired this year).
Some of our supporters: the European Commission, Council of Europe,
Foundation of the "Banco di Sardegna", University of Cagliari,
Municipality of Cagliari, Regional Government and other local Public
Bodies and administrations. We receive also financial and in-kind
contributions by private bodies which support our activities. We have
quite good connections with local media.
In addition TDM 2000 cooperates with other Sardinian young peoples groups and associations.
We have been recognized as Non Government Voluntary Organization by the Government of Sardinia.
The project consists in a socio cultural and education programme .
Different activities are planning in the project:
-
International Summer and Winter Week: since 12 years we organize
cultural meetings that make youngsters from all over the world (around
200) share two great experiences, one in Sardinia during the summer and
during the winter in different places in Europe.
- “Radioxcaso” is our new web radio that give the possibility to young people to express them self through several radio broadcastings
- Su Cinibiri: We promote the use of non-formal education in the schools of Cagliari, through sessions about multiculturalism and physical diversity.
Volunteer profile:
The priorities of TDM 2000, regarding the profile of the volunteers are:
-experience in the field of youth work and organization of international youth activities and non-formal education.
-skills in media communication, in web radio broadcasting.
-the volunteer should be really interested in our project and highly motivated, independent and propositive person.
-be ready to adapt to a new culture and new people, and work in a international team.
