YMCA Baden: YMCA stands for Young Men's Christian Association. It is a
world-wide Christian, ecumenical, voluntary Movement for women and men
with special emphasis on, and the genuine involvement of young people.
The guidelines of the YMCA says: the work of the YMCA is integral. It
perceives Man as a unity of spirit, soul and body, in his relationship
with himself, with other people, and with God. This takes place in
various forms of youth work, youth education work, and youth social
work. The YMCA Baden works on the area of the Protestant church Baden
in the South West of Germany. To the YMCA Baden belongs over 60 local
YMCAs with a lot of volunteers. The YMCA Baden has 21 staff members.
o The domicile of the YMCA Baden is the castle Unteröwisheim in the
federal state Baden-Württemberg. In the neighbourhood you find the
larger cities Bruchsal, Karlsruhe, Pforzheim and Heilbronn.
Unteröwisheim belongs to the city Kraichtal with 15.000 inhabitants.
With the tramway you can reach the bigger towns. Young people from
other parts of Germany move to Baden because of the excellent training
possibilities and the good chances to find an employment. Large
companies are located in this area. The landscape is beautiful and in
an hour you can reach the Black forest, a wellknown centre of tourism.
o The volunteers live together in the community "Lebenshaus" as possibility of holistic education and mentoring. This includes:
o Sharing flats
o shared meals
o partly working together
o common weekly community sessions

The volunteer is a member of fhe community "Lebenshaus".
Tasks:
- to do handcrafts with wood
- practical work in the restructing of the castle
- take part in the administration and service for the guests or in the kitchen
- create programs for youngsters during their stay in the castle
Learning opportunities:
- get o know German language, culture and lifestile
- knowledge in service for the guests
- to gain pedagogic responsibilities in the child- and youth work
- advanced training during special seminars for voluntary workers in YMCA youth work
- self-dependent organization of own offers

Volunteer profiles and recruitment process
The volunteer is interested in living in the community "Lebenshaus".
We estimate:
- basic knowledge German
- interest in:
o service for guests in the castle
o in YMCA work including activies for children and young people
o handicrafts (wood)
- ability to work in a team, kindness, independence, resilience
- open for Christian values

Risk prevention, safety and protection
In the run-up we will invite the volunteer for a pre departure visit to
get to know the tasks and the community the volunteer will live with.
To get overview in the beginning the volunteer get a portfolio about
the host organisation with a lot of information's. For the time of
employment, a staff of the YMCA is responsible for the volunteer.
In addition, the volunteer is offered personal mentoring and counselling.
