EVS opportunity in organic gardening project on Ireland's island
The garden volunteer will care of one of our gardens on the Aran Islands.
The objective will be to provide food throughout the year for the household and to sell any surplus to local people. She/he will be given help and instruction throughout and the other volunteers will also be there to work with him/her when necessary. She/he will be given every assistance to learn and develop the skills necessary. The tasks will change over the year. She/he will begin in the Spring. The seeds will already have been ordered and will have arrived. She/he will plan the layout of the garden and begin to sow seeds in seed trays and also prepare the ground. Throughout the Spring she/he will be planting. In the Summer she/he will be tending the crops, weeding and watering. In Autumn harvested vegetables and herbs are preserved for the winter. In winter there is time to make plans for the gardens and prepare the beds to start the sowing season again. The volunteer will be introduced to organic gardening by the supervisor and by other volunteers, supported with appropriate literature and possibly courses on the subject.
