PROJECT ENVIRONMENT
Kaunas suburb Ezerelis nursing home is located in small town Ezerelis which is located 25 km from Kaunas city. It is nice and small place with many private houses, church, local municipality, secondary school, culture center, library, primary health care center and many small shops. There are 3000 inhabitants in Ezerelis. Ezerelis is only 50 years old town. All environment is surrounded by pine tree forest. It is very good place for out door sports activities, hiking, cycling. Ezerelis Nursing home is located in the Ezerelis center. It is large territory around the building, good transport traffic. It takes about 35 minutes to get to the Kaunas center from Ezerelis, every 20 minutes goes micro buses.

Nursing home is not a big institution, only 30 inhabitans live in there. All have disability or are very old and need every day care.

ACTIVITIES
We expect good experience and nice relationship between our working staff and volunteer. As our organization is social and medical we could offer social and medical care activities for volunteer. Our organization is open minded and hope to know more about other counties cultures, peoples characters and attitudes towards elderly and disabled people. Our organization has close contacts with other organizations in Europe(Germany). We get charity and have very nice relations. Young foreign person also could be very important in our organization. Europe union connection between government and common people is very important in everyday life.

Our organization could offer simple social communication with elderly people, also helping them to dress, to have dinner, to go outside, or assist in playing chess or watching TV. There is only few persons who talk in English, but volunteer will have their assistance during work.

Accommodation and meals
Volunteers live all together in rented apartments all over Kaunas for two or three persons (each gets
a separate room). The flats that are situated in a city center are usually in a little worse condition
that the ones that are out of the center (all the flats are rented from private persons). In some
projects there is a possibility to live very close or even in the hosting organization (if they have any
accommodation facilities).
For some volunteers it is a challenge to live in a room which is crossed-by. Not all of the rooms are
like that (or not all flats have rooms like that). But this is relict from Soviet Union times. There are
so many tenement houses projected like that so sometimes it’s hard to get a flat with separate
rooms.
How do volunteers manage their lives in the flats is only up to them. The only thing is asked – to
keep it clean.


PROFILE OF VOLUNTEERS
We expect young, motivated person who would be interested in work with handicapped and elderly people. Also person who is not scared to see handicapped people everyday and help them in everyday life. It is not very easy work in fact. The volunteer should be interested in health care system and in social work. Also be tolerance and sociable.
