Specific context of 2011-2012: ESSGlobal
The goal of the present project is to help Social Solidarity Economy initiatives:
1. recognize themselves as part of a common movement,
2. incite cooperations among them,
3. raise awareness in general to the ideas, principles of the approach.
In
today’s world the Internet is a crucial way of communication. Social
media – the use of web-based and mobile technologies to turn
communication into an interactive dialogue – is widespread and used all
over the planet allowing the connection among individuals as well as
diverse cooperations among organisations.
Therefore a website will
serve as the medium to reach the objective. This website allows the
initiatives and networks to identify themselves on a world map as part
of the global movement of SSE and also to build cooperations with other
organisations having a similar economic approach.
The involvement of
a young person, an EVS, will give another dimension: “youth” to our
mission. The young volunteer can share their experiences concerning
their country of origin, and being part of the “Net Generation” – the
generation of digital natives - can make a real contribution the
project.
The volunteer will easily find “the common language” with
the multicultural community of local young people, and represent a good
example of youth engagement and youth participation in global issues.
Tasks
The volunteer will be confronted to various tasks. They may choose them according to previous personal experiences or they can explore new topics and acquire different skills. In this way, they can improve their skills by obtaining experience in diverse fields, but also can have the “security” of doing tasks they are already familiar with. They may participate and contribute to activities and tasks: edition of our newsletter participation in the animation of the project website participation in the animation of the network: meetings, events Search for similar European, Brazilian and Canadian projects, making contacts with them. Attending meetings within the network Assistance in the development of a cooperation project aimed at the development of SSE mapping standards The process of logistical preparation of the national conference of SSE in Luxembourg: relationship with the participants, welcoming them, helping to register and create a welcoming and helpful atmosphere. Organization of evening programs for the participants: for example, concerts, exhibitions or other types of animation. Ideas and suggestions are welcome and volunteers taken into account. Visiting organisation of the network in Luxembourg: making interviews Making contact with local youth clubs, raising awareness towards SSE and sharing experiences of EVS The tasks are adjustable according to the abilities and desires of the volunteer. Besides these tasks they will have the opportunity to develop a personal project.Criteria
We would be pleased to host a volunteer who is aware of the values of SSE (Social and Solidarity Economy) as well as its thematic: environment, responsible production and consumption, sustainable development etc. and capable to identify with our mission. We would like to host a volunteer who believes in our project and wants to become involved in an international, open-minded and multicultural project. Other important characteristics are curiosity, creativity, enthusiasm and willingness. Although it is not a main selection criterion, working knowledge of French is considered as an advantage. The volunteer will work under the responsibility of the head of INEES but they will have to show a certain sense of independence and resourcefulness, motivation to establish new contacts and ability to work in a multicultural environment.Procedure
We intend to give a chance to young people who have the least opportunities, often excluded from tradition recruitment based on formal education, so they can reveal unexpected skill when a process of non-formal education provides them with the opportunity. For this reason during the selection process applicants are requested to send us a motivation letter in which they can express themselves, explain their motivations and interests. When receiving applications we will set up a folder containing all the CVs and motivation letters. After a pre-selection, we will establish personal contact with 5 candidates by calling them on phone and having a conversation with them in order to get to know them better and to be sure that they clearly understood our project. Following the phone-calls we are planning to have a meeting with all members of the organisation where the final decision will be made. We will pay attention to inform the rejected applications also about the negative decision.Luxembourg
