EVS volunteer in Italy in Fiume Veneto town
EVS volunteer in Italy in Fiume Veneto town
We can offer each volunteer the opportunity to participate in services for the community of social inclusion in local youth community to learn the local cultural, professional, educational reality to learn Italian of excursions / sightseeing ecc The role of the volunteers will be a support to the Italian leaders (both volunteers and not)
Description of the organisation and motivation
The interest of the Municipality of Fiume Veneto in implementing EVS
projects lie in our interest in the European dimension and its related
concepts of solidarity , tolerance, active citizenship, youth active
participation.
We do not have previous EVS experience but we can count on 11 years of experience in projects that started in 2000 with a bilateral exchange
project delivery in Norway, followed the next year by us hosting a
trilateral project with Norway and Iceland. Noting the positive local
impact, the interest shown by young people and the positive impact on
communities, we decided to focus on the leadership of youth by supporting young people wishing to submit an application form for an exchange project
From 2002 to 2010 we have hosted many young people from across Europe
and in very large groups (60 boys plus the leaders) because the
projects were multilateral projects involving up to six nations. Our
openness to Europe led us to realize three twinnings with Sirnitz
(Austria), Hude (Germany) and Castelsarrasin (France).
In 1999 we participated in the mini-Olympics at Hude (Germany) and in
2002 we hosted it in Fiume Veneto, with the participation of 6 countries
and a total of 150 participants. In later years we participated in the
mini-Olympics at Hude, Kröpelin (East Germany) and Sirnitz.
In conclusion we would stress that, while we do not have experience of
EVS projects, we have a long experience in hosting people from other
countries, even in large groups. The experiences of European exchanges
helped us to develop good skills in dealing with young people to
promote positive experiences of non-formal learning.
Even the local community learned to accommodate youngsters from other
countries and everyone is ready to collaborate on new experiences. We
are confident that the EVS volunteers will find living in our area an
experience useful for future personal development / training. They might also decide to come here to work after the conclusion of EVS.
Description of the project
We have already prepared our EVS project and we are submitting it at the
deadline of November the 1st in order to implement it during summer
2011.
We don’t have yet the accreditation but we presented the Expression of
interest one month ago and we are waiting for the accreditation. We
explained our idea to the Italian YiA agency and they found it really
interesting so we are confident that we are receiving the accreditation in the next few days.
We would like to start hosting volunteers from different countries and
organizations, aged between 18 and 30 years, interested in working with
children / young people with a good knowledge of English language and
creative, artistic, sporting skills. Possibly students and / or workers
with some experience in animation / youth associations.
We would cooperate with organizations working in the field of
volunteering, social field, culture, theater, music, street entertainment.
The recruitment will be through the Agency’s website and we’ll make
contact with the various organizations. We’ll prepare a questionnaire
after which will follow individual telephone conversations.
We are confident that the EVS volunteers will gain some useful and
meaningful experiences for the future development and personal training from living here for a few months.
We plan to start with a project for young people / teenagers lasting 4
months (June, July, August and September) that we would repeat each
year. We plan even to keep on in implementing other projects during the
three years of accreditation.
Volunteers will be accommodated in the local hotels or in apartments.
They will consume meals in local restaurants, and during the summer
activities, at the canteen that serves all the participants.
All activities will be in English. This is the reason why we would recruit
people with a good knowledge of English. Other important personal
characteristics are being available and interested in working in the
social field and having artistic skills/interests.
The project involves 15/20 volunteers who will participate:
In summer activities for children and teenagers. We would like to
simulate a multilateral exchange project to bring more young people
toYIA program, to experience directly the European dimension and
citizenship. Each volunteer will play the role of group leader of a
different nation, young participants will be divided into “national
groups” and will work on a multilateral project-based on environment and
sustainability. Naturally, alongside these themes we will discuss those
of the European dimension, tolerance, fighting against xenophobia,
non-formal and intercultural learning, etc. In June we will work with
volunteers to “draft” the application form, they will be required to
bring the objectives, activities (group building, energizer,
laboratories, etc.).
in experimental / language laboratories after the beginning of the
school, with pupils of the local middle school. Volunteers will enter
into the school and will cooperate with the language teachers. They will
carry out some laboratory-based on the culture of their countries , on
the food and customs, on the creation of art objects, on theater activities.
At Fiumettopoli: important event that our local council organizes every
year. Volunteers will attend the event in cooperation with youth
associations. They will work on the comics laboratory based on topics of relevance to Yia, leading to the realization of the exhibition.
The volunteers will arrive in early June and will stay until September the 30th.
During the month of June, we’ll work to their training and to the
preparation activities. In this phase, the volunteers will also be able to
acclimatise, to know the people with whom they will cooperate and to
follow a short training course.
The months of July, August and September will be devoted to the
implementation of the project.
We achieve to hold an on arrival training course, a mid-term evaluation
in August and a final evaluation at the end of September, before the
departure of the volunteers.
