EVS volunteer needed to support one German child and youthwork project
The project for the volunteer is the open child- and youthwork in Saerbeck. the place of the project is the youthcentre, which has moved into an own house with a garden.
A.
Saerbeck is a small place in the near of the cities Münster and
Osnabrück (approx. 30 km in the distance) with its wide-ranging
cultural offers. Saerbeck lies in the near of the international airport
Münster/Osnabrück. Among other free-time-activities like riding horses,
playing golf, go hiking is also a big sport offer in clubs very
popular. Saerbeck is, what one can understand with the word "village".
An accumulation of houses, which haven´t blocked the look to the
landscape around yet. An assembly of people, who are still having the
look for the nature and the neighbours. In short: A municipality, where
solidarity and community still count.
B.
The project for the volunteer is the open child- and youthwork in
Saerbeck. the place of the project is the youthcentre, which has moved
into an own house with a garden in March 2007. The leader of the centre
is a pedagogical full time worker and one socialworker. The youth
centre is offering a requirement orientated projects, measures and
activities.
Model and aims:
Children and youngsters, irrelevant what background, gender and descent
All visitors should feel good in the institution
the work is orientated on the interests, wishes and cares of the visitors
the youth centre sets its interests particularly in the needs of girls and young women
the youth centre expects and supports one´s own initiative and independence of the visitors
the youth centre supports the international youth work by youthinitiative and meetings and international projects
the youth centre commits itself to tolerance and acceptance of other opinions, people and differences
This aims are translated by following basic activities:
open the institution during the regular hours of business with the whole of activity-offers for the young people.
* pedagogical care, company and advice of children and youngsters
* take for visitors in case of problems
* carry out the offers, projects, courses, which are fitted to the
needs of the visitors and their abilities (handycrafts, sports, cooking
of foreign gishes, games)
* initiation and organization of special pedagogical actions
* work in the youth-café
* cooperation with organizations and institutions in the municipality

On the other handthe presence of the volunteer should prompt and educate the european awareness of the young people
The volunteer is integrated in a team, in hich he/she should work on own responsibility after a trainingperiod.
In this team the experiences of the volunteer will be reflected.
Working hours will be on Monday, Thursday and Friday between 3 p.m and
10 p.m. and on Tuesday between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., but this times can
change. The team will meet 2 hours a week to plan the programme.

C.
The project requires a great of one´s own initiative, creativity,
self-assertion in the work with children and youngsters from Germany,
but also immigrants from Turkey, Russia, and former Yugoslavia.
It is expected, that the volunteer evolves own activities, which make
Europe and a peaceful contact accessible and wake interest for Europe.
Besides that we would be pleased, if the volunteer would organize an
exhibition in an actuell topic of youth or for his home-country.
The volunteer should have followong competencies
* communication
* experiences and methods in the youth work
* open person, who is able to take the initiative in the cooperation with younger people.

The local hosting organization provides an appropriate accommodation
possibility for the volunteer. According to the place of the project,
the volunteer will live in Ibbenbüren or Westerkappeln in a dwelling,
which many volunteers are sharing or in the accommodation of the
clinical center Ibbenbüren. Here the volunteer has its own room,
kitchen and a bath are common rooms, which are available for several
persons.
Between the tutor and the volunteer periodically conversations will
take place in order to accompany progress and to help the volunteer
with the solution of probably arising problems. Additionally the tutor
guarantees the receive of continual support for the volunteer.For the
first time in the project a training plan will be arranged. Volunteers
receive each necessary support for the realization of their tasks and
enough time to get into the new job. The training plan will help in the
integration in the local district and the project surrounding field.
The co-ordinating organization ensures that the volunteer participates
in the on-arrival-training and the mid-term-meeting. EVS- volunteers
receives an appropriate language training during their stay, which is
organized by the coordinating organization.
Co-workers of the co-ordinating organization look after the volunteer
and will take care. They are also organizing meetings, which take place
every 4-6 weeks, where all volunteers of the region meet each other. In
special meetings they become acquainted intensively with the German
culture. In the beginning, in the middle and at the end of the EVS a
conversation between the volunteer, the tutor and the co-ordinating
organization takes place and there are special meetings only for the
tutors, where they can exchange their experiences.
The youth-welfare-office has developed some quality-standards, which
includes the on-arrival-conversation and the mid-term-conversation and
also a questionnaire , which is to be filled by the tutor and the
volunteer in the beginning of the EVS.
