Tasks and activities of volunteers

The volunteers clarify their cultural socialisation live circumstances. They learn to reflect the own point of view critical. Contact to other cultures gives the chance to develop curiosity, openness and understanding for other characteristics or to receive knowledge about other cultures.
Youth hostel: the volunteer helps to take care for international and national visitors and seminar groups. They help developing, organising and realising the frame programme for the guests. The volunteer can integrate the view of a foreigner in our planning. This is extremely valuable for us. It would be nice if the volunteers could develop programme modules by themselves after a certain induction phase (e.g. country workshops, international food fests, language animation).
Family centre: volunteers can develop offers and programmes for families, children or integrating offers. In a induction phase the volunteer will build an overview about existing offers and assist project managers during working. According to the interests of the volunteers they can develop and realise once or regular programmes (e.g. creative offers, common evenings with families about characteristics for the country, culinary or political topics. Also in the daily run they can assist (e.g. planning and evaluation of offers, decoration of rooms for certain activities or support during happenings.

Role of the volunteer
We are able to offer additional offers with the volunteers which increase the attraction of the house. Our modules for intercultural education gain authenticity if volunteers from other countries fill it with content. Project overarching activities deepen the contacts between the host projects and new innovative offers arise. Volunteers are additional helper and extremely important.
The decision about the actual tasks we agree with the volunteers after a 6 week induction phase. This phase is necessary to understand the tasks and the possibilities of the different working fields . The task will change from volunteer to volunteer.
The weekly working time is usually 35 hours (including language course time). Leisure time is not always on weekends since the projects main working time is the weekend.
Volunteers holiday will be planned together and we mainly consider the wishes of the volunteers. Volunteers get 2 days holiday per month. Overtime will be balanced in accordance with the manager of the project.
The volunteers live in a living community other volunteers. Kittchen and bath room will be used in common. The flat is equipped with the necessary furnitures and the usual white goods. Towels and bed clothes will be provided by us. Volunteers are responsible for cleaning the flat.
Boarding costs will be given to the volunteer. Despite of that there is the possibility to get food in the canteen of the youth hostel. We are contracting a private teacher for language courses.
