Great opportunities for 2 EVS volunteers to be involved in media center Kanal 4 activities from Germany
Great opportunities for 2 EVS volunteers to be involved in media center Kanal 4 activities from Germany
EVS participants of the media centre "Kanal 4" are integrated into the team of the full-time and honorary workers.
"Kanal-4" is the internal television station of the clinical centre
Ibbenbüren and radiates as such via transmission loop (loop) a
self-produced 24-hour-programm every day in a week. Our centre works
with professional requirement.
Kanal-4 works since 1984 with honorary and additionally since 1986 with
full-time co-workers. Kanal-4 works with the digit S, the S-VHS and the
DVCam system. We are responsible for all steps, which are necessary for
the production of a TV-program, in all, from the topic search over
filming and cutting the contributions up to the presentation and
radiant remittance.
Kanal-4 is a community of interest world- vivid of not bound honorary
and full-timeco-workers, which produces a television programme for the
patients of the clinical centre Ibbenbüren. Approximately 600
spectators of all age groups have daily the opportunity to pursue the
program from Kanal-4.
Kanal-4 carries information, clearing-up, documentation and maintenance
for patients, in order to bring them the used environment to the bed
and to give them a part at the local and regional events. To it belong
cultural, religious, social and political topics, in addition, the
recording and presentation of cultural meetings (concerts, cabaret,
theatre). Beyond that Kanal-4 presents information and clearing-up
contributions of medical kind and informs about clinical
centre-internal topics and contents.
The team of the honorary workers and co-workers of Kanal-4 covers on
the average 20 persons, mainly young people and young adults. Beside
two full-time leaders there work two social service workers at Kanal-4.
Occasionally the team is extended by trainees from school and study. In
a rule belong to the team two participants of the EVS program. They are
merged into the team of the full-time workers and honorary ones as well
as into all fields of activity of our transmitter.
The seat of the media centre "Kanal 4" is Ibbenbüren, a central centre
in the Tecklenburg country ( state North Rhine-Westphalia). Ibbenbüren
counts at present approximately 52,000 inhabitants and is economically
strongly shaped by the dismantling of hard coal (bill city). Ibbenbüren
is situated in the midst of the Tecklenburg country of extremely
delightful landscape and at the border to Münsterland. It has very good
traffic connections (own main station, railroad line Rheine -
Osnabrück; regional bus connections; motorway A30, quick accessibility
motorway A1; Airport Muenster - Osnabrück). For its size Ibbenbüren has
an expressed versatile cultural program (emphasis: concerts, theatre
and cabaret). A cinema is just as present as numerous cafés and
taverns. On two days in a week there takes place a market which offers
together with different supermarkets and businesses of the retail trade
numerous possibilities for the purchase. Ibbenbüren offers most diverse
possibilities of the leisure activities. Because Ibbenbüren is situated
in a beautiful surrounding field of the landscape, Ibbenbüren offers
for example an own swimming pool with artificial waves as well as an
open-air swimming pool, idyllic lake, which is Aasee, and which
environment offers also to sportsmen numerous possibilities. In direct
proximity of Ibbenbüren there are the large cities (upper centres):
Osnabrück (approx. 25 km) and Münster (approx. 40 km), which can be
attained by train and by bus quickly and comfortably. A visit in these
cities with their various cultural and other offers is always worth
while.
EVS participants of the media centre "Kanal 4" are integrated into the
team of the full-time and honorary workers. They are equally guests as
colleagues and should bring into the work of the team their own ideas
and proposals, with commitment as well as with their whole creativity.
In this way can become a fruitful and creative cooperation with one
another among all team members. "Kanal 4" offers to EVS participants
the possibility of becoming acquainted with all ranges of the medium
work relevant for our media centre and unfolding in these. To the tasks
belong above all:
- planning and organizing of transmission contributions and for this resulting preliminary work
- search
- filming at turning places as well as in the studio
- direction
- cutting of the film - materials to a contribution
- moderating contributions
- radiating contributions
- providing current transmission plans
- participation in mixer recordings of meetings (e.g. concerts).
The EVS participants receive fundamental and large views of
journalistic and technical fields of the activity, can acquire the
technical authority or develop an already existing one. In the
technical regard this is valid in particular for the camera work and
cutting contributions; "Kanal 4" has accordingly some professional
technical equipment and can ensure for this a professional guidance and
company. The editorial guidance and company are incumbent on above all
the editorial leader of "Kanal 4", who is a trained editor. On the part
of the members of the full-time team (technical and editorial leader,
social service) the EVS participants are integrated into the work with
the honorary workers of "Kanal 4". Since the honorary co-workers of
"Kanal 4" are mostly young people and young adults, there is offered
the possibility to interested EVS participants to get experienced not
only in the medium work but also in the youth work. The medium and
youth work go at "Kanal 4" due to its personnel structure hand in hand.
The work at "Kanal 4" is in substantial parts and phases teamwork. This
is contributed to the character of our work. But also in the teamwork
it depends also on individual initiative, individual creativity and
individual commitment. EVS participants, who decide for an employment
at "Kanal 4" are invited to develop independently ideas, to seize
initiative, to notice independently responsibility for projects and to
take over the line from film projects. Here they can count on the full
support of the whole team.
Possible personal activity emphasis of an EVS participant in the
context of the work at "Kanal 4" can be clarified and specified, if
such desire exists, gladly before or at the beginning of the activity.
Here we are on our part very flexible, since we understand our offer in
the context of the EVS program also as talent promotion within the
range of the medium work.
The work at the media centre "Kanal 4" requires a high measure of
responsibility, readiness, self initiative, commitment and creativity.
The readiness to bring themselves and also to integrate into a team are
indispensable, since medium work is general and the work at "Kanal "4
is teamwork in some special substantial parts and phases.
An EVS participant, who decides for an employment at "Kanal 4", should
be able to work independently and be always oriented on the success of
the product; in this way they reach relatively briskly successes, which
are very motivating for EVS participants. The readiness of the EVS
participant to take over the delegated tasks should be important for
them in the sense of an effective and good teamwork.
The readiness of the EVS participant to learn German language is
indispensable since we cannot fall back always on other
auxiliary/traffic languages (English, in parts also French). Gladly we
support EVS participants, who work with us, if necessarily in their
efforts to learn German language. An ideal way for an EVS participant
is already to know the German language at least in parts or to complite
a language course in their homeland before their project. (The EVS
participant, who works at Kanal-4, will be able to register largest
personal successes when they feel relatively safe as far as German
language is concerned). If no German knowledge is present, an applicant
should speak at least English or French well (i.e. in a form suited for
everyday life) provided that they are ready to learn German (see
above).
The possession of a driving licence for a passenger car is of large
advantage. But also prospective customers, who (still) have no driving
licence, are regardless of it welcome. Generally someone, who would
like to work in the context of the EVS program at Kanal-4, should be a
communicative person and have joy in the contact with other people. An
EVS participant, who would like to work at Kanal-4, should float with
the head in creative heights, however stand firmly at the same time with
both legs on the ground of life.
Applicants for an employment at Kanal-4 should give up in their written
applications if possible the meantime popular stereotyped formulas as
well general empty phrases and instead of it describe their motivation
and their personal nature very concretely and descriptive.
EVS applications are independently sighted and evaluated at Kanal-4 by
the technical manager as well by the editorial leader. Both leaders
give thereupon a personal opinion of the applications, they exchange
their estimations, discuss their opinions, compare again the favoured
applicants and make finally a common decision over applicants. In all
rule three applicants receive an addition on our part.
In the context of this application sounding material there play a role
criteria as well as criteria concerning the personality of an EVS
applicant (character). For us plays expressly no role, which
nationality, culture, religion or which sex is an applicant. Also other
world-descriptive aspects are of no importance. Likewise for us plays
no role, which education has an applicant. The age of an applicant is
only of importance in such a measure that he/she must be of age
according to German right (i.e. at least 18 years old). For us count
actually a person, what a EVS participant can bring into the work at
Kanal-4 and what they can take back for themselves after their
employment at Kanal 4. Important for us is the enthusiasm for the
common thing.
The supporting organization provides an appropriate accommodation
possibility for the volunteer. According to the place of the project,
the volunteer will live in Ibbenbüren or Westerkappeln in a dwelling,
which many volunteers are sharing or in the accommodation of the
clinical center Ibbenbüren. Here the volunteer has its own room,
kitchen and a bath are common rooms, which are available for several
persons.
Between the tutor and the volunteer periodically conversations will
take place in order to accompany progress and to help the volunteer
with the solution of probably arising problems. Additionally the tutor
guarantees the receive of continual support for the volunteer.
For the first time in the project a training plan will be arranged.
Volunteers receive each necessary support for the realization of their
tasks and enough time to get into the new job.
The training plan will help in the integration in the local district and the project surrounding field.
The supporting organization ensures that the volunteer participates in
the on-arrival-training and the mid-term-meeting. EVS- volunteers
receives an appropriate language training during their stay, which is
organized by the supporting organization.
Co-workers of the supporting organization look after the volunteer and
will take care. They are also organizing meetings, which take place
every 4-6 weeks, where all volunteers of the region meet each other. In
special meetings they become acquainted intensively with the German
culture. In the beginning, in the middle and at the end of the EVS a
conversation between the volunteer, the tutor and the supporting
organization takes place and there are special meetings only for the
tutors, where they can exchange their experiences. The
youth-welfare-office has developed some quality-standards, which
includes the on-arrival-conversation and the mid-term-conversation and
also a questionnaire, which is to be filled by the tutor and the
volunteer in the beginning of the EVS.
