Habaja Open Youth Centre from Estonia has one EVS free place
The volunteer will work with a small village school and kindergarten in a small rural community organising daily activities.
Project activities takes place in a small borough (Kõue borough) in
Harjumaa. Kõue borough has 2 bigger villages and current project will
take place in one of then called Habaja. Habaja is approx. 50 km from
the capital city, Tallinn and it has around 600 inhabitants (including
smaller neighbouring villages). It has its own shop, library,
kindergarden, post office and school.
Most of the inhabitants of the village go to work outside of the
village, either to neighbouring borough or to the capital. Biggest
employer in the area is municipality itself with all of its
institutions (schools, libraries etc). Important role in the area also
has agricultural production. Area is with rich and varied nature.
EVS volunteers work will be connected with all community and most
likely will directly or indirectly influence majority of the population.
Volunteer will work with 2 different target groups:
- youngsters in Habaja Youth Centre
- children in Habaja kindergarden
The volunteer's activities are divided into several parts, which also
consider volunteers preferences and abilities. These activities will
vary from time to time, depending on the season and school holidays and
also on the projects that hosting organisation is running.
The volunteer will work with 2 different target groups: preschool children in kindergarden and youngsters in youth centre
Volunteers tasks are divided in three big groups depending on the target group and content of the work:
" Working with children in local kindergarden
" Working with youth in the youth centre/streets
" Working for youth (work in office, starting and creating new projects)
Working with the children in local kindergarden means mainly assisting
staff of the kindergarden during the lessons and playing with the
children.
Working with youth, EVS volunteers main activities are connected with
assisting the youth workers: help to organize events for kids and
youngsters - art, handicraft and music activities, outdoor and indoor
activities, intercultural evenings etc.
While the volunteer is in the office he/she will have the option to
choose which activities and task he/she wishes to participate in, this
allowing for the personal interests of the volunteer to be taken into
consideration. We hope this level of flexibility will provide a large
variety of activities for the volunteer, while broadening the personal
experiences of the volunteer.
The option for a personal project will always be available to the
volunteer, together with the assistance of his/her mentor a personal
project can be developed. It could be organising summer camps, youth
projects, starting with new study group or something else.
The volunteer will never be given tasks that are beyond his/her
abilities, and most of the time volunteer will work together with
his/her Mentor. Over a period of time we hope the volunteer will
request more responsible tasks, and together with the guidance of
his/her mentor, more responsible tasks will be given.
A normal week for volunteer will be from Monday to Friday 34 hours per
week. Normally volunteer will have free time on the weekends, but due
to some activities the volunteer maybe required to participate in
activities outside the normal working hours. In these cases we would
trade normal working hours, for extraordinary hours, with the approval
of the volunteer.

We would like to receive volunteer, who is open minded and tolerant.
She has to be interested of working with children and youngsters and
shouldn't be afraid to live in small community. We are ready to host
both- female and male volunteers and age is not important, nevertheless
we see that person who is coming to volunteer in our project is mature,
since working in a small community with different target groups is not
always easy. Also we wait from the volunteer some own initiative and
creativity to come up with new ideas and suggestions.
