Hungarian NGO is looking for 2 EVS volunteers
Hungarian NGO is looking for 2 EVS volunteers
Our volunteer's tasks are always in close connection with local youngsters, current-, future-, and ex-volunteers.
Pécs is a mediterranean city, 240 kms away from the capital in the
southern corner of the country. It is a cultural centre, since its
biggest institution is the University of Pécs, providing education to
30.000 pupils in all kinds of faculties (law, economy, medicine, fine
arts, music, etc.), and connected to this but also independently there
are a lot of cultural events all over the year; theatre, movie, choir,
wine-song, gastronomic etc festivals are making the city lively. The
city has a mediterranean atmosphere, and a lot of historical monuments
(antique Christian and Turkish monuments) can be found here, which are
part of the UNESCO World Heritage. Transport facilities are good inside
the city and to the capital. The project takes place in the biggest city
of Baranya county, Pécs. Pécs is going to be the Cultural Capital in
2010. The city is preparing for the event, thus the cultural life
flourishes.
Our volunteer's tasks are always in close connection with local
youngsters, current-, future-, and ex-volunteers. The volunteer's
presence itself gives an intercultural dimension to the organization's
work, because this way not only the volunteer, but also our staff
learns how to work and communicate in a multicultural environment.
Variety and balance of tasks:
-participating in the different club activities at different parts of
the town (handicrafts, sport activities, playing board-games,
organizing intercultural nights and presenting his/her country and
traditions)
-planning and organizing different activities in the EVS club with the help of the other volunteer
-helping when a new volunteer arrives (our organization also host
short-term EVS projects, thus long term volunteers help us during the
short-term voluntary service)
-helping out in the planning and organization of intercultural meetings, seminars etc…
-we're planning to start a video project in which the volunteer could present his/her experiences in Pécs
-we're always open to creative ideas and proposed activities of the volunteer, and we appreciate all of her/his initiatives.
Example of a weekly timetable /30-35 hours/week/:
Monday:
Morning: Staff meeting where we talk about the happenings of the previous week and outline the tasks for the next week.
Afternoon: Participating and arranging club activities for youngsters
in one of our offices at the suburbs of Pécs. Once in a while preparing
a cultural night in order to present the volunteer's own country, home
town, traditions etc…
Tuesday:
Morning: Hungarian language class
Afternoon: Organizing sport activities and contests for youngsters./
Updating the web-page with current information that might be useful for
current volunteers.
Wednesday:
Morning: Hungarian language class
Afternoon: Preparing free-time activities/ organizing a movie club/
participating in the information service (according to the volunteer's
interest)
Thursday:
Morning: Preparing and organizing the EVS Club for current-, future-,
and ex-volunteers. Sending invitation to the members; organizing
activities together, writing reports about the club. Updating the
web-page that is connected to EVS, and updating the e-mail list.
Afternoon: Helping out in the preparation of international programmes.
Friday:
Morning: Hungarian language class
Afternoon: Informational service in the central office / Cooperation in the construction of the organization's newspaper.
Evening: EVS Club (every second Friday). The volunteers will carry out the previously planned programme.
Every month our office organizes a weekend activity for youngsters: The
volunteer will participate in the preparation and the actualization of
this programme. (For example he/she will document the happenings by
taking photos or making videos, conducting interviews etc…)
National holidays are free, and the volunteer will get two days off per
month. If he/she has to work during weekends she/he'll get that day
during the week.
We would like to host a volunteer who is motivated to work with
youngsters and willing to share his/her ideas about the work. We would
like to host a volunteer who is mature enough to work in a group,
respecting each others' ideas and opinion. Sometimes our youngsters are
not motivated enough, thus the volunteer will need to have patience to
be accepted by them. The volunteer should be open towards these kids,
because they appreciate attention, but because of the difficult
situation that some of them are living in, they have problems with
expressing their feelings.
The volunteer will work in a youth office, where the working conditions
are good. Before the volunteers' arrival he/she will be insured by AXA,
and we also ask him/her to the European Insurance Card as well. In case
of emergency doctors can handle the EU card better than the AXA card.
Because of our previous experience with EVS volunteers we have contact
to the doctors, and they also know about AXA insurance. We help the
volunteers with the administrative tasks, and we provide help in
anything they need.
During the summer we arrange camps in other cities. We get in contact
with the local doctor, and we tell him/her about the youngsters and the
volunteer as well. The workers of the Kht. know how to handle smaller
injuries. If something more serious happens they call the ambulance.
