Kindergarden volunteer opportunity in the culture of UE countries project in Poland
Kindergarden volunteer opportunity in the culture of UE countries project in Poland
The main task of the volunteer will be to prepare and realize two workshops per month about healthy life style (food and sport) or tradition and art in his/her country, especially connected with books or reading.
Lodz, where the project takes place, is a town midmost Poland (2 hours
from Warsaw) with over 600.000 habitants. It's not the richest city,
but has a very unique atmosphere with many historical buildings. You
can also find here a lot of green places- we have the biggest sanctuary
forest and park situated inside the city in Poland! At the present time
Lodz proudly celebrates its multicultural traditions organising each
year the International Festival of Four Cultures. Lodz is also the
academic centre with several public and private universities and
colleges. Probably the most famous is the Film School from which
graduated such well-known directors as Roman Polanski, Krzysztof
Kieslowski.
The Kindergarten 112 is situated in one of the housing estates in Lodz,
which is called "Krolewie". Our building is surrounded by a beautiful
garden and is in the vicinity of the park "Zdrowie" and a botanic
garden, which definitely makes our kindergarten an attractive place.
Coordinating organization FERSO Foundation is also experienced
hosting/coordinating/sending organization. FERSO Foundation is a
non-governmental consulting-educational organization. Our activities
focus on supporting educational initiatives and programs in the areas
of human rights, social, and legal reform, media, art and healthcare.
Organization seeks to promote the development and maintenance of civil
societies around the world.
The volunteer will share his/her ideas about fostering a healthy
lifestyle and in our company will acquaint himself/herself with
children's literature. This person will communicate his/her national
customs and show how adults and children, two different generations,
are able to have a good time together. Interaction with new people is
always an opportunity to exchange experience. Together we will think up
a welcome game for the winter season, say goodbye to the old year,
celebrate Christmas, or find out new ways for a healthy lifestyle. We
can communicate in English and Polish.
During the project a volunteer will spend 3 days per week in the
kindergarten. Being here, he/she will participate in a daily life of
the organization - helping in everyday workshops and events organized
there every month (e.g. Autumn's party, Polish Christmas Traditions,
Spring's Day, International Earth Day, Easter, Mother's Day, etc). The
volunteer will be a member of our team, sharing with us time and ideas.
The main task of the volunteer will be to prepare and realize two
workshops per month about healthy life style (food and sport) or
tradition and art in his/her country, especially connected with books
or reading. The volunteer will prepare his/her own script, according to
his/her idea, and then run each workshop during two days in each
kindergarten's group.
The volunteer will also participate in trips organized for children
(e.g. to the ZOO, theaters, concerts, sport events) - the volunteer
will have the possibility to see interesting activities prepared for
children by different organizations and will support us in taking care
of children. During the whole project the volunteer will prepare a
local campaign (especially for children and their parents) about the
chosen issue connected with the subject of the project. The main aim of
the campaign will be to involve local community and widen their
knowledge about the certain issue.
The activities offered for 2 days per week are prepared by the
coordinating organization to help the volunteer prepare and run the
main tasks in the host organization. These include: participation in
workshops for children (2-3 days per month); preparation and
realization of big events (e.g. the meeting of EVS volunteers in
Poland, Earth's Day, etc.), organization of Intercultural Evening for
local community, preparation of monthly EVS Newsletter.
There is also a lot of space and support of both organizations for the
volunteer's own activity connected with the subject of the project
1. The volunteer who is willing to actively participate in activities,
is really interested in the subject of the project. 2. The volunteer
who wants to live the life adventure!!!, who is open for other
cultures, new skills and knowledge.
3. The experience in running workshop and work with children isn't
necessary. The will to run workshops and work with children is
necessary!
The base of the recruitment process will be the CV and motivation
letter of applying volunteer; we'll pay attention to the volunteer's
interests concurring with the aims and theme of the project.
People responsible for help and volunteer's support are: coordinator
(responsible for the whole project), mentor (friendly help) and tutor
(coordinator and support in hosting organization). The volunteer will
discuss with them every important issue of his/her EVS project.
Moreover the volunteer will participate in monthly meetings. It will be
an opportunity to discuss volunteer's problems and questions concerned
his/her tasks.
The volunteer won't be responsible for safety of children whom
he/she'll be working with. The volunteer won't stay alone with them,
even during workshops.
100 children between 3 and 6 years of age attend our kindergarten. "The kindergarten of a joyful childhood" - this idea accompanies us in our day-to-day activities; we put these words into practice every day.
20 people are employed in this institution; 9 of them are teachers. Together with our foster-children we are involved in numerous projects. An innovative approach towards education of the youngest is one of our features. Two methodical and curricular innovations constitute the result of our work. Taking Glenn Doman, an American psychotherapist, as our model, we have designed a programme concerning teaching children to read since the age of two. We teach our children how to read using flash cards; the same method is applied while children play Maths games. Even though they are five-year-old kids, they can read books they create themselves.
We wish to live a healthy life. Accordingly, we exercise a lot and try to discover varied techniques of relaxation and exercising our mind to make better use of it. To achieve all these objectives, we employ methods of educational kinesis.Fostering a healthy lifestyle, our kindergarten, in the cooperation with other schools and kindergartens, organizes "Health Days." Moreover, we have got a well-equipped gym where we practice hip-hop dance. Then, our artistic skills are displayed at the festival of Modern Dance and during other dance competitions.
Children and the whole staff constitute one family in our kindergarten. Every year we celebrate holidays, including also family celebrations. Spending time together is a good occasion for integration. The issue of health is the subject of integrative plays. We cooperate in the network of institutions that propagate health in Lodz. Apart from that, we desire to improve our communication skills, therefore we learn English (we know songs and ditties in this language).
