AFS Interkultur is member of the world-wide youth organisation,
American Field Service, which has offices in 55 countries. AFS
programmes include 12 months high school stay and 5-12 months youth
exchange for people from 18 to 25 years of age.
Today AFS is an independent youth organisation with a strong
international network (AFS Intercultural Programs). AFS is a voluntary
based, non-profit organisation independent of political and religious
interest. In Denmark AFS started in 1947 and has today 43 local
chapters.
B. Proposed activities for EVS volunteers
We wish to make an individual work description for the volunteer according to his/her interests and abilities.
We expect that the volunteer will support the staff whenever and
whereever needed. And perhaps inspire and give new inputs to staff and
children.
Together with the staff the volunteer will play with children and keep them actively engaged.
Examples of proposed activities:
- outdoor games: ball games, rope skipping, playing in the sand box or at the swing etc.
- indoor games: board games, drawing and other creative activities
We also think that it is important for our children to experience and
get to know the Danish traditions and therefore many of our activities
are related to the different seasons and their traditions. E.g. at
Christmas we are making decorations, participating in children's church
service, backing and singing Christmas carols.
In general we hope that the presence of the volunteer will give both
staff, children and parents an intercultural learning experience.
Lodging and boarding
AFS will provide a host family for the volunteer. The life in a host
family will facilitate the integration in the local community and will
accelerate the process of both language and intercultural learning.
The volunteer will be invited to social events arranged by the AFS's
local chapters together with other volunteers, exchange students and
host families.
C. Volunteer profiles and recruitment process
To get the best out of this project it would be preferable both for the
staff, the children and the volunteer him/herself if the volunteer
takes an interest in working with children of this age group and also
has the patience required.
We will be interested in any volunteer who can meet these requirements.
E. Risk prevention, safety and protection
The Kindergarten complies with Danish safety regulations. The work does not involve any special risks.
