Kindergarten nr 79
Kindergarten nr 79
As we wrote before we put big pressure on European Awareness, and we want to give children a lot of contact with different cultures. We believe that by international volunteers we can provide them a lot of knowledge about other countries. We also hope that maybe our teachers, by contact with volunteers will gain some new ideas, or new points of views. On the other hand: we think that the volunteer may have a lot of new experiences. He/she will be able to see how work in the kindergarten looks like, what is the methods and goals in children education. Such exchange of experiences might be helpful on both sides.
Generally the main activities for our volunteers will be to promote
his
country and culture (both in the kindergarten and in our local society),
and also to help teachers in a casual activities. Promotion of the
country we want to support with special places in each classroom. Such
places would be called "Corner of the country" and each volunteer will
be able to make some posters or other art works, to put there, to
present his country. We would also like to organize meetings with
volunteers and activities connected with their country. It would be
great to make some competitions about knowledge about culture, language
e.t.c. in the kindergarten and among other kindergartens. If the
volunteer will be willing to, we can publish some materials prepared by
him, about his country. Also we can make a special place in our
newspaper for "International News". It would be nice if the volunteer
will know some books for children or short poems or songs - than he can
present those to children. Also adjusted to volunteer's abilities, we
would like him to help to create our web page (similar to his
participation in news paper).
Another important thing is that volunteer can take part in all our
diverse annual or occasional events. We are trying to have good contact
both with parents and local community, so very often (usually once a
month, depending on possibilities) we are organizing meetings, picnics,
festivals, competitions, trips (e.g. to museums, parks e.t.c.). Of
course the volunteer will be able to take part in all of those
activities.
About more casual activities, we want the volunteer to actively
participate in most of our meetings, help (both teachers and children)
in daily activities, engage in competitions e.t.c. Before it, it'll be
necessary to know better the director, teachers, staff and whole
organization - during the first period we will try to present as much as
possible.
We think that during this project volunteer will be able to gain a lot
of knowledge about kindergartens in Poland, and also about Polish
culture. We will try to help the volunteer to see our culture (also by
organizing annually activities and celebrations like Easter, Christmas,
Mother's Day e.t.c.) and to participate in it as much as possible. Also
by this work the volunteer will some how obliged to know more about
children's education, literature, especially poetry of J. Kern, who is a
patron of our kindergarten, and we present a lot of his works to our
children. We will do our best to help volunteers to find their place in
our organization, to feel comfortable here and to work with us in an
effective way.
Volunteer profiles and recruitment process
We would like the volunteer to be open for working with children, to
have positive attitude. Also it would be nice to have a person who would
like to work in group and cooperate with the rest of the staff.
Volunteers applied for project to coordinating organizations via the
online base of hosting project. Volunteers going to Partner Countries
found the hosting organization by themselves or with help and previous
experience of STRIM Association.
Sending Organizations were coordinating the first type of selection.
Final selection was made by Hosting Organizations, with cooperation with
Coordinating Organization (STRIM). This final selection was based on
more detailed research and matching particular volunteers with their
destination project. It was crucial for us, what are the interests of
the volunteers and what is their motivation for this particular project.
It was also important to chose volunteers with different skills, so
that they can create individual projects on different fields.
In case of hosting projects, about our demanding for the volunteers, we
paid attention to their communicational skills and their motivation to
take part in the project.
All tasks of the volunteers are created in such way, that they will
fulfill the added quality for the hosting Placement, and will not
replace any of the full time workers. Their daily work will be not a
substitution of daily work of other colleagues.
