Language and cultural centre in Latvia offers EVS opportunities
The main common task of our volunteers will be to interact with the local society sharing information about their own national culture, exchanging views on European culture, experiences in cultural work and learning some new things from each other. Other tasks of will be to help organise different intercultural activities, events, workshops and celebrations of the volunteers’ national traditions and visiting schools to present their countries.
Proposed activities for EVS volunteers
It is foreseen that 2 volunteers will work together . They will help each other to
fulfil their daily tasks and realize their own ideas in order to aid in
the provision of information for young people in the area of
European awareness.
Some of the volunteer's tasks will be different; each one will have his
or her own responsibilities. But some of the activities, such as helping
in organizing of big cultural events or different celebrations, they
will organize together.
Our Centre works a lot with international projects and it could be
interesting for our EVS volunteers to help us in our daily work and
developing new contacts with European organizations, in order to
strenghten relations between our community inhabitants and people from other
European countries. This project will give to our volunteers new
knowledge and practical experience in his future professional work.
Furthermore, they will have (twice a week) the opportunity to attend
language lessons (Latvian or Russian), in order to improve their
communication process inside our organization, during the daily
activities, and outside, with local community, enriching in this
way their personal skills and culture.
Volunteers will work at the Language and Cultural Centre from Monday to
Friday, from 14:00 till 20:00, in order to support our staff in their
daily work. This means helping them with preparation and running of
courses, seminars, meetings, cultural and youth events in the
organization and also maintaining a basic service to inform young people
visiting the cultural centre.
The main common task of our volunteers will be to interact with society sharing information about their own national culture, exchanging
of our views on European culture, our experiences in cultural work and
learning some new things from each other.
In particular, one of the volunteers will be busy to organize different
intercultural activities, events, workshops and celebration with
volunteer's national tradition. He/she will help young people in looking
for information and documentation in Internet about European issues and
themes (10%). He/she will be in charge to develop the resource &
multiethnic centre, visiting different schools for meeting students,
presenting himself/herself and his/her country, proposing them to
participate in the activities of our organization, in the European Youth
in Action Programme and EVS Programme (40%). Moreover, he/she will lead
language interactive activities and conversations, organize also
meetings with youngsters, with the aim to speak in his/her mother tongue
and share more useful information about his/her own country, promoting
in this way a better understanding between different culture (30%).
He/she will take an active part in the regular work for our Language and
Cultural Centre as implementing meetings about specific European topics
according to the wishes and needs of our youngsters (20%).
The second volunteer will be involved in the follow mainly activities:
He/she will take an active part in the regular work for our Language and
Cultural Centre promoting and organizing intercultural exchanges
according to our international projects and the special focus of the
Youth in Action Programme (40%).
The volunteer will have also the opportunity to add his/her own ideas
during the editing of our international projects, European exchanges,
seminars and workshops (30%). If these ideas are in keeping with the
aims of our organization, we will give him/her the opportunity to
realise these ideas. We fully support interesting and new opinion from
the volunteers.
He/she will be in charge also to develop the official Website of our
organization: collecting all the information, pictures, comments… about
our staff, Rezekne community, Rezekne youth, our international projects,
seminars, training and workshops, together with the contact list of our
European partners and friends(20%).
As a consequence our volunteer will have the opportunity to maintain and
improve all these links with the other European Youth organizations,
through his/her personal opinion and contribution (10%).

EVS to all young people. Consider further information about the type of
sending organisation you want to cooperate with. This information can
help the match-making between volunteer candidates, sending
organisations and your organisation.
The volunteers will have to show interest and sensibility towards the
work with young people and adults, and will be able to use and show
empathy, integrity and consideration. All skills which can allow him/her
to develop new activities in our centre are welcomed. We hope him/her
to be ready to take creative duties and to be responsible and autonomous
enough to propose, prepare and organize new activities and his/her own
work according to these skills.
Factors that will be important for the future volunteer work:
- Be interested on European issues and/or in art and culture topics;
- Like and be able to establish contacts with both young people and
adults;
- Have the ability to organize his/her own work and be ready for
independent acting;
- Have the ability to take initiative;
- Speak English on at least a basic level ( German or French may be
useful as well );
- Have basic skills concerning computers ( Word, Internet… )
All European sending and hosting organizations are invited for
cooperation in EVS programme.
Tasks

They will also help local young people to find their own EVS projects and lead interactive language activities. As well as this the volunteers will also take an active part in the regular work of the Language and Cultural Centre helping to promote and organise intercultural events according to our international projects and the special focus of the Youth in Action Programme and helping to maintain a basic service to inform young people visiting the cultural centre. During writing of our international projects, European exchanges, seminars and workshops they will also have the opportunity to add their own ideas and to help in the preparation of these events. They will also be in charge of developing the website of our organisation by adding information relating to exchange and seminars that our organisation has participated in or organised. We fully support interesting and new opinions and ideas from the volunteers. As a result they will have the opportunity to maintain and improve links with the other European Youth organisations through their contribution and interests.
