This project is meant to offer children, parents and teachers the possibility to directly deal with individual differences in languages and culture according to the person - focused pedagogic. We would like to develop a wider understanding for culture in general that implicates activities, openness towards new experiences and relates to community - life.
Project Environment
Our school is situated in one part of St. Pölten - it´s called
Pottenbrunn and has a population of about 4.000 persons. Direct in
Pottenbrunn there are different schools, restaurants and a pup.
The City Center of St. Pölten is very close. So you can go by bus
(every 30 minutes a bus goes from Pottenbrunn to the City Centre.) In
the City Centre there are a lot of shops, restaurants, pubs, museums,
cinemas in summer there are a lot of different events like the
cityfestival (in the hole city centre with different bands,youth
contests,…)
In one part of St. Pölten (very close to Pottenbrunn) there is a lake. So people can go swimming, playing beach volley ball,…
St. Pölten is the capital of Lower Austria and has the population of
50.000 persons. There are a lot of schools and two professional schools
with a lot of students from different countries and backgrounds.
St. Pölten is also very close to Vienna about 60 km and about 40 minutes by train.

The role of EVS volunteers in our organisation:
Our volunteer should learn more about our different fields and about our pedogogical concept.
He/ she should learn more about austria and our society (tradtions, customs,…)
He/ she should be an active part of our community. The volunteer should
support our children and youngsters by their daily work and he/ she
also be involved in the tasks of our teachers. (assist them by
different instruction units, excurisons, projects,…)
Typical activities of the volunteer:
Support our pedagogical team like preparing different materials, learning sheets,…
Planing and organizing different activities like birthday parties,
christmas our easter parties, summerparties - end of the school year, …
Accompany our team and our children and youngsters to outdoor
excursions or to cultural events like exhibitions, roleplays,
concerts,…
Our volunteer has also the possibiltiy to create own projects and ideas
like music, painting or cooking, workshops, playing theatre,do sports
or make/ create exhiptions on special topics together with our children
and our youngsters - it depends on the interests of the volunteer.
Our volunteer has also the possibility to inform our children and
youngsters about the own home country for example language workshops,
telling stories form the homecountry of the volunteers, cooking
tradtional meals from the home country together with our children and
youngsters. He/ she can also organize a party with typical tradtions
and customs from the home country of the volunteer.
Typical school day:
07:45 - 08:00 Short team meeting (priorties of the day)
08:00 Children and youngsters arrival
08:00 - 09:30 Learning in our special fields (each of our children and
youngsters can decide the field - they also can change the field) The
volunteer will support our team and also our children and youngsters
during this time
09:30 Break with juice - The volunteer will help our team to prepare the juice for all
09:50 - 12:00 Learning in special fields - time for workshops, projects….
12:00 - 12:30 Clear up the rooms - children and youngsters has to clear
up the materials and prepare some things for the next day. The
volunteer will support them by these works
12:30 - 13:00 Team meeting - evaluation and reflection - the volunteer she be active involved.
Once a week the volunteer should be involved by the material
prepartion. So he/ she has the possibilty to create own ideas and to
explain them to the other team members.
On the weekends our volunteer has free.
He/ she will have 12 days free (by 6 months evs) and 24 days free (by 12 months EVS)
Possible holidays are two weeks arround christmas, one week in between
january and february, 2 weeks arround easter and the whole summer.
Our school year start with a week in istrien. This time is very
important build up a strong network (to become an active member of the
team) We join this time together with all children and youngsters and
with our teachers. For the volunteers should this time a perfect
possibility to get in touch with our children and youngsters and with
the parents and the teachers.
VOlunteer Profile
Our volunteer should be interested in our padeagogical concept based on
Maria Montessori. He/ she should be very interested in working in a
team.
Our volunteer should be interested in working together with children and youngsters
He/ she should be creative (like playing music, sining, painting or playing theatre,…)
For the communication it´s important that he/ she has at least good
English skills. It´s also important that the volunteer is willing to
learn German and to visit a German course.
The volunteer should be open minded and act independently.
We are open to work with different partners from all Europaen Countries.
Interested Volunteers will find the description of our project in the
public database. The youth information centre of Lower Austria will
support us by doing the paper work.
The selection of the volunteer will be a decision of the whole team.
