Tasks

The possibility to host in our school youngsters from Europe will help us to encourage our students to participate in the local and international events and to improve their knowledge and skills. In our experience we have seen that the contact with people from aboard is the best way to realize how distance can be overcome and how difference can be understood. We believe that this could be a good key to improve our students' self-confidence.
We are offering to the volunteer a very open-minded team. The teacher working in the school have a quite long experience in working with children. They are very open and often careful to their needs. School is organising different thematic weeks such as health, food, European etc., in which volunteer will have opportunity to take participation with his help and also his/her own projects and ideas and to organize free time activities for students. Also boarding school tries to make difference culture and sports events as their students are very active and talented in sports, arts, dances. Teachers will always support volunteers with their knowledge, experience and open-minded attitude. Volunteers will have their own free time which they can be spent in Liepaja or by travelling around Latvia. The volunteers will participate in the different celebrations in the school and through them they will have opportunity to know more about our country and traditions.
Volunteer's daily week plan could look like this: a volunteer will work from 11.00 - 16.00 o'clock 5 days per week. They will have 2 day off each week. Sometimes a volunteer will be asked to work on week-ends and to have days off on working days, because there might be some events and activities on week-ends, like trips to other cities or some celebrations.
The activities and tasks for a volunteer are:
1) 20% language lessons (it could be English);
2) 30% sport activities with the children as swimming, basketball, aerobics, football, activities in the Ice Hall;
3) 40% children's leisure time - playing games, organising some art and cultural events, helping children with their home tasks;
4) 10% organize different trips and excursions for children.
