PROJECT ENVIRONMENT

The district is pretty close from the city, in the prestige area, within a comfortable connection with local transport. At the moment the area is being changed increadibly because of new skysripers, shopping centers, new public sectors, new buildings. In the territory of the district there are 3 secondary schools, Vilnius lyceum, 6 kindergartens.
Although in the old part of Shnipishkes there are a lot of old wooden houses without any fascilities. The houserent in here is the lowest and poorest in comparison with other districts. It has caused the fact that about 50% of inhabitants require of social support. Also there are many "one-mother" families in this district. People who live here belong to the national minorities - russian, belarussian, polish, Romany families. All the members and inhabitants of this district have an opportunity to participate in the events, outdoors and camps of the center.
The volunteer will be accomodated separately from the social center and he/she will only attend the center on their voluntary hours and free time (ups to the volunteer).


ACTIVITIES FOR THE VOLUNTEER

The family and teenagers camps are being organised in the countryside for children. Volunteers will take part in those camps. The volunteers will be able to have different shifts: one - in the morning, another one - in the evening. Volunteer will work 6 hours a day from 10 am untill 4pm in the pre-school group and from 12 am untill 6 pm in the pupil group.
Preliminar scedule for both volunteers:
Pre-school group (Monday-Friday):
10-11 am - support for pedagogue;
11-12 am - communicating and playing with children;
12-1 pm - common lunch together with children and tutor;
1-4 pm - outdoor activities with children or preparation for the events;
4 pm - dinner (optional.)

Day-care center for children (Monday-Friday):
12-1pm - common lunch together with children and tutor in the pre-school group;
1-4pm - meeting children in the day-care center;
1-4pm - preparing homework - volunteer help children during their homework preparation for school;
4-4.30pm - dinner (optional;)
5-6 pm - opportunity to implement individual ideas and to lead his/her chosen workshop. Presenting volunteers own country for children through interractive games. Preparation for the events, excursions, feasts.

The volunteer can also be offered to implement his EVS project with the family, individual work with each family children. Also the volunteer can support teachers with creative works in the creative educatory (singing, dancing) activities. In the center the volunteer will also represent the model of equal rights.
The volunteer will be able to use the internet, to check email etc. All the working staff of the center can speak at least some of the foreign language (mainly english, german).

VOLUNTEER PROFILE

We would like the volunteer to have some experience from social work sector. We expect he/she will be socialble, like children.
