The volunteer will work an live in the city of Magdeburg. Magdeburg is the capital of Saxony-Anhalt, one of federal states in the east of Germany, and the second biggest city in this federal state. Magdeburg has 250 000 inhabitans. It is a very old city, located at the river Elbe. Unfortunately a large part of the city was destroyed during the second world war, so the biggest parts of the beautiful architecture was lost.
Magdeburg developed into a center for heavy maschinery industries during the last century. After the economical changes, which where the result of the German reunification, a lot of the factories where closed. Similar to other cities in East Germany, Magdeburg, has a high percentage of unemplyment, which causes social tention and problems which are especially widespread in the parts of the city, which were built in the 60ties and 70ties.
In the last years the number of students at the universities of Magdeburg is steadily increasing. Also the cultural life in Magdeburg is very rich and active: theatre and cabaret are offering interesting and constantly changing repertoire, there are a lot of museums and galleries as well as different cultural activities, that you can visit.

A central focal point in the work is planning and implementation of educational events. Alongside several smaller workshops, the youth media meeting with over 100 participants, the chance to gain experience and knowledge about contentual and structural organization of events. In this process it is important that the the volunteers review the general framework and compare it with the present conditions in their homecountry.

Concrete tasks in this field are:
- Learn to know the educational conception of Fjpmedia
- Assistance on the conception of single events and inclduding their own ideas and experiences
- Assistance on the preperation of events (call for proposals, public relations, participant and referent recruitment, organization of event rooms and board, cooperation)
- Design of material (flyers, posters etc.)
- Assistance of implementation of events (support of participants, group leader and referent activity, organisational tasks)
- Assistance on the follow-up of the event (evaluation, accounting)
- Documentation of the work

The network "politikorange" accompanied by political and cultural events on a federal state and national level offers a second central focal point. The volunteer will assist on a concrete media project and collect valuable experiences. They learn to know the present political discussion processes and meet high-ranked representants for parties and institutions. Whereas "politikorange" is a network which streach over the whole federal state the volunteer will meet young media workers from entire Germany and can tie new contacts.

Concrete tasks in this field are:
- Learn to know the concept of "politkorange"
- Implementation of the contentual focal point for every project
- journalistic work for the respective output in print, video, radio or online

The Medientreff zone! offers as media educational platform a open house section and a project section. The users of the platform are to 40 % people with foreign background. This is another focal point for the work. The volunteers can support the open house section or assist by single projects (groups for children's day care centres, preschool groups or groups for disabled people).

Concrete tasks are
- Learn to know the concept of the Medientreff zone!
- Support the users of the open house section including own ideas and experiences
- Development and implemenation of single parts of different projects
- Advancement and redevelopment of materials and modules for media educationall work
- Cooperation with other providers and establischements working for media education
- Documentation of the work

Fjp>media aims at supporting editors for school newspapers in the scope of a campaign. Beside informational and educational offers for pupils , the aim is to network between editoral teams stimulated and strengthend. The campaign is with regard to the interest of the volunteer to do further work in the homecountry, another possible focual point in the work.

Concrete tasks are:
- Learn to know the concept of the school newspaper campaign
- Support of the single informational and educational offers
- Support of the editorial teams and organisations of the network meetings
- Documenation of the work

The mentioned focual points and tasks are based on the current definition of task in the organization. Concrete tasks will be defined based on the wishes, interests and experiences of the volunteers and therefore not necessarily contentually fully match the description.

To realize the integration of the volunteer in the EVS-project and to assure the best condition for a successful volunteer year we are planning the following measures. The measures are based on the Charter for the European Voluntary Service.
An agreement will be signed to fix the objectives, contents and organizing conditions of the project and the rights and duties and also the responsibilities for all involved parts to avoid misunderstandings.
The sending and hosting organisation work together to prepare the volunteer. During the whole project there will also be regular exchange of information between the sending and hosting organisation with clear contact persons. Also a common evaluation between all parties will be guaranteed.
The volunteers take part in the trainings involved the Cycles of EVS, organized by the National Agency for the program YOUTH IN ACTION, to prepere themselves for the stay in Germany and to have the possibilty to reflect over their experiences together with oterh European volunteers.
The volunteer will regular take part in a German language training to acquire or improve their language skills. The language training is free of charge for the volunteer and takes place during working hours. The German course is organized by the organisation Auslandsgesellschaft e.V. and is common for all volunteers from the different projects in Magdeburg and its surroundings.
A personal mentoring will be guaranteed for the volunteer. In the work she/he will be supported by a mentor and a tutor will regularly provide guidance and support. Evaluation meetings will take place weekly (1-2 hours) with the mentor to evaluate the activities and to plan the next steps and monthly activities together. Additionally monthly gatherings with all national and European volunteers will take place, where the experiences are reflected upon, the projects are mutually presented and co-workers provide inputs, when needed.
The volunteers are lodged in a flat-sharing community together with European or national volunteers from our or from other organisations. The volunteer will have his/her own room with a shared kitchen and bathroom.
The common living and working will enabled an intensive exchange of experience and an interacting learning and supporting process with all the volunteers, trainees and youngsters performing their civil service. This diverse support during the stay is also guarenteed in the volunteers' freetime.
Additionally we want to create a strong contact to other European volunteers, who are active in partner organisations, as well as to national volunteers. To achieve this, we intend to use the regular gatherings for previous, present and future volunteers, which the organisation Auslandsgesellschaft organizes. The Auslandsgesellschaft also organizes contact meeting two times per year for all volunteers, who are working in Saxony-Anhalt. The volunteer can through these meetings establish contact with other European volunteers and thanks to the closeness of the locations, more easily keep in contact during the voluntary service.
