NGO from Germany is looking volunteer for a youth center project
The Oberlin-Haus is an protestant institution of youthwork.
The Oberlin-Haus is an protestant institution of youthwork, it's the
supporting organisation and the management is located in Ulm. The bond
has about 100 employees and is active in the City of Ulm as well as in
the rural area in the region Alb-Donau.
The overall concept of the insitution characterise our self-image and
our basic setting. It express reality and demand at the same time and
is the binding and common fundament of our work.
History and tradition:
The Oberlin-Haus Ulm was founded in 1960 and is named after the pastor
Johann Friedrich Oberlin. As our mission we want to advance and claim
for the self-responsibility and initiative of children, youngsters and
families entrusted in our care. Our trustfulness in in their own
strength ought to encourage people. We also want to be a good example
and to aid them to take matters into their own hands. In the last years
we developed into a significant and powerful institution.
people and self-image:
The fundament for interaction with all people is our Christian idea of
man with the basic values chariety, respect, esteem, honesty, tolerance
and trustfulness.
target group:
The focus of our work in the Oberlin-Haus is concentrated on children,
youngsters and families. We counsel and aid them in involvement of
their reality of life. Our offers are open for everybody and do not
depend in religious affiliation or political attitudes.
offers:
The Oberlin-Haus advises, accompanies and counsels children, youngsters
and young parents, who will not stay in their families any longer.
Families get aid in handling tedium-problems, educational tasks and in
finding solutions with conflicts.
hosting place:
The volunteer will be appointed in the youth work in Blaustein. The
community Blaustein is 6 km away from Ulm. Blaustein is located in the
region Alb-Donau with about 15.000 inhabitants.
There`s a good transport-connection by train or bus. Also Blaustein
shows a wide leisure-time offerings for example to go by bike, do
rock-climbing or several cultural events.
Our fields of work with youngsters are:
- organisation of leisure-time offers for youngsters
- assistance in homework
- active work with groups and sport events
- social work at school
The youth club is open three times a week. The youngsters have the
possibility to spend their leisure-time here, listen to the music, meet
friends and surf in the internet-café. Also there is an offer to
support children and youngsters with their homework and - because of an
amount of foreigners - to improve their German. These are offers for
any kind of class levels. We have several sport offers and a group
doing break-dance.
In the social work at schools we are placed in two secondarys and one
school for special needs. We cooperate with teachers in counceling
parents and pupils, supporting teachers in problems with pupils, try to
find solutions for youngsters with problems in school and outside. Also
we help to integrate "outsider" by communication- or behaviortrainings.
Seminars in social learning has the aim to strength social behavior and
-competence and the ability to work in teams. There are a lot of
attractions to do sth. in the group, for example sport activities, to
strength the self-confidence and considerateness of the participants.
In addition there is the support of the school`s coffehouse,
professional orientation and working-groups with adventure contents.
