Project environment:

The project place will be Riga - the capital of Latvia. There are aprox. 750 000 inhabitants residing in Riga and it is very dynamic and modern city. In Riga you can find lot of cultural events and active night life, as well as enjoy great architecture, sights and historical heridetary. Everyone can find how to spend free time here.

The apartment for volunteer will be near the centre of Riga and office place will be in the centre (aprox. 10 minutes from Old town).

In the organization all members are volunteers, approximately 10 of them are very active members and approx. 10 more members are coming to trainings and special activities. Most of organization`s members are high school and university students.

Proposed activities for EVS volunteers:

The volunteer will work hand in hand with members of organization. This implies the following service and learning opportunities for the volunteer:
" The volunteer will be trained and will work on administrative issues linked to "Youth against AIDS" such as: public relations, project management, financial management, networking and partnership building, etc;
" Assist in the development of new project proposals on non-formal education, social exclusion, HIV/AIDS and in particular in the analysis of the EU funding opportunities;
" Organize activities, such as picnics, theatre visits and others for HIV positive persons;
" Organize cultural events such as exhibitions and concerts for youth public (for example, health week, St. Valentine day and others);
" Organize and lead non-formal education activities for youth in schools and orphanage houses.

The volunteer time to time will also be directly involved in the preparation and implementation of international projects as co-facilitator (i.e. seminars or training courses) This will enable him/her to get a hands-on experience in the running of international activities.

Volunteer will have chance also to realize his/her ideas in organization and we will provide support to develop his/her ideas.

The intercultural dimension will be present throughout the whole EVS experience, given that the volunteer will live in Riga and will be able to explore a new culture on a daily basis. She/he will be able to attend a Latvian language course.

Volunteer profiles and recruitment process:

We would like to take volunteer in age 18-30 any gender, social statuss, rece or religion. Volunteer should know english language (at least basic knowledge).
We don't ask for any special expierence or knowledge.
We would ask volunteer to write his/hers motivation letter, so we would know why he/she wants to be a volunteer in this project.

Risk prevention, protection and safety:

Volunteer will have preparation training before they arrive to Latvia (organized by sending organization) and the short training when he/she will arrive to Latvia. The aim of training will be debate about solving conflicts, the meaning of crisis and conflicts, how to face them and solve them, role-playing and intercultural games and HIV/AIDS (training will be held with other organization volunteers). With this training we want to get to know the new volunteer and in the same time explain everything about project and prevent problems that could appear during project.
Volunteers will not work alone. This is a way of preventing possible risks. Volunteers will have the same prevention and security systems as the staff in the centre "DiA+LOGS" (where are HIV possitive persons). Volunteer will always be counselled about the most correct and safe actions to carry out.
We would also provide the service of a mentor in order to support the volunteer in his or her difficulties. We will prevent risks and crises by providing regular supervision to the volunteer. We aim to create a good relationship between the volunteer and the members of organization by involving him/her in our activities during work and free time. The volunteer would be invited to attend social events and outings with organization members. There will be several persons involved around the volunteer who all will be supportive and will do their best to make the volunteer feel as good as possible.
Volunteer, of course, will have health ensurance if there would be any need for medical care.
