The Wespe (Wasp) is the carrier of the all day open primary school with children from three different schools with partly increased care need (children with language deficits and from the school for education assistance). Nearly 100 children go to the all day school from Monday to Friday, from 7.30 a.m. till 9 a.m. (before beginning of the compulsory classes) and from 11.30 a.m. till 4.30 p.m. Emphasis lies beside the common lunch in the education range, the homework support and the possibilities for free play, discovering and promoting of the individual abilities as well as of the social with one another.
The daily schedule looks as follows:
In the morning activities as required, from 11:30 a.m. preparation of the day activities, greetings of the first pupils, the common lunch, homework support, support of the Internet corner, leading and execution of the creative, experience-educational or sporty offers (leaves saws, music, football, Inline skating, playful language courses etc.). End of the working day is approximately at 4.30 pm. Participation in regular team meetings. The volunteer is to cooperate after an appropriate training period and is to work responsibly and is to convert their own ideas. The volunteer is an important addition to our team. Thus new impulses can be set regarding our work. They can suggest and form the European consciousness of the children.
The volunteer should be especialyl communicative and have no fear to come along with strange people. It would be good, if there were already present experiences in the work with children and young people. Creativity and ideas as well as self initiative are desired. Because to the open all day school go children from the primary school, German knowledge is favourable. Vocational or specialized knowledge is not necessary. The volunteer should want to work gladly in the team and alone.
We co-operate with each sending organization. Favourable would be organizations, which work with children and young people and have experiences in the work with foreign young people.
The supporting organization provides an appropriate accommodation possibility for the volunteers. In Westerkappeln there live volunteers in a group house for volunteers with an own bedroom and a common day-room and a common kitchen. Between the mentor and the volunteer there take place exchange discussions regularly in order to accompany any progress and to find solutions to any problems. There are an introduction and an intermediate discussion with the volunteer, with mentor and the supporting organization as well as meetings of mentors, at which the mentors can exchange among themselves. The Youth Office has developed quality conditions, which contain an introduction and an intermediate discussion as well as contain a questionnaire, which is filled out at the beginning of the project by the mentor and the volunteer.
