A. Project environment: profile of the organisation and local community
The Secretariat of ISCA is situated in Copenhagen in a multi-sports,
culture and business centre called "DGI-byen" in the heart of
Copenhagen where the volunteer will be working in a national and
international environment. 1.7 million people live in the Greater
Copenhagen area and Copenhagen has a rich cultural life with museums,
cinemas, cafés, clubs, restaurants, music venues etc.
B. Proposed activities for EVS volunteers
Introduction:
The tasks of the volunteer include assistance in organizing meetings,
investigating and assisting in inititating youth education programmes
within sport. This includes communicating with the ISCA youth network
and co-operation partners, helping plan and taking part in meetings
with the ISCA Youth Committee plus travelling to relevant youth events
in Europe. Finally, the volunteer will also be part of the daily
routine at the office, helping out with some administrative tasks.
Intercultural dimension:
The volunteer will be involved in cross-national projets and deal with
people of all nationalties in her/his work, seeing that ISCA has member
organisations in more than 60 different countries. The intercultural
dimension is inherent in the philosophy of ISCA (see point A+C). The
office staff itself also represents different nationalities.
Variety and balance of tasks:
Working in a small office, there is a natural variety of tasks right
from being engaged in big projects to buying stamps at the local post
office. ISCA is always occupied with various projects and activities -
short- and long-term - such as education programmes and seminars in
collaboration with member organisations and this yields various tasks
at various times. However, a great deal of the work is done by the pc
in planning and communicating, but there are also meetings and teamwork
involved.
Responsibilities for certain tasks, specific guidance…:
The volunteer will be in charge of the youth network - updating and
communicating, and s/he will be involved in organizing a youth seminar
or camp within "education through sport" during an ISCA festival. There
will be other members of the staff guiding and supporting the volunteer
where needed.
Options for a personal project:
We like to encourage our volunteers to put forward their own ideas to
projects etc. and there is always the opportunity for a volunteer to
realize her/his project idea when in line with the ISCA philosophy and
within the frames of available finances - and within the broad topic of
"youth education through sport".
