Varna is the third big city in Bulgaria and the biggest one in the
North-East region. It is situated on the Black Sea coast. Its port,
airport, people and cargo transportations are defining its key
importance for the district with 12 municipalities. With its
geographical situation Varna is a unique bridge connecting Europe with
Asia, Russia, Ukraine, etc. The city is one of the biggest industrial,
transports, commercial and cultural center in the Black Sea region. The
region is also a very attractive destination for investors, thanks to
the developed industrial sector, high-qualified employees and workers,
the geographical situation of the transport links and communications.
The active development of international tourism /respectively 5 resort
complexes with over 35 000 beds/ is possible thanks to the comfortable
climate. Also due to the beaches with total length of 17km; the sea
waters with good recreation qualities, which fulfill the European
requirements; the forests around the sea; the rich network of protected
territories; 4 yacht ports; well developed building structure along the
coast.
Varna is one of the most important cultural centres in the country. Six
national festivals take place here. There are also 4 theaters, festival

organization has its new club there. The building is situated in the
central part of Varna.
The volunteers will work as a part of our team , They will support the
working team in the organisation, management and carrying out the
different local activities suggested by the organisation . At the
beginning, they will have a period of time to adapt themself . They

to learn our culture and language. The first 2 months the volunteers
will receive a Bulgarian language intensive course.
After adaptation period our daily, regular activity is work in our

The EVS volunteers should bring an international atmosphere in the
centre. It should help young people to learn about other countries,
cultures and different kind of living .A lot of young people have
troubles in the communication with the official institutions, they
don't know, how to find the information, or to find some adviser. Our
aim is to help them to find any kind of information or advice, what
they need and what they are looking for. We also will arrange
activities to develop the sense of European identity of young people,
such as international exchange programmes, the participation in
European networks, projects and volunteer groups to contribute to the
application of the Charter of the Council of Europe, to enhance the
active participation of young Europeans in the city life through more
up-to-date initiatives than the obsolete scheme of city councils for
the young, to promote voluntary cervice.
The volunteers will be occupied 28-30 hours average per week. Most
of the time, they will spend in the building of the Community centre
(50%) working in the different areas as internet radio, youth
information, consultation.... We also expect from the volunteers to
help us in the repair and maintenance work in the building (5%),
according to their possibilities and skills. Part of the time will be
spent out of the building (15%) and, depending in the type of the
activity planned, we will visit institutions, schools, hospice for old
people and people with physical disadvantages. We plan to participate
in different city events - festivals, concerts, and fairs (10%). At
vacation time (15%) the volunteers will participate and support the
organizing of different camps - voluntary and children. We count on the
own initiative of the volunteer to prepare trainings (5%) for exchange
of experience and knowledge on themes, which he is quite familiar with.
The working time of the Community centre is from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. every
day, but the volunteers according to their actives defined, will be
occupied from 4 to 7 hours dayly during the week. Some of our
activities are done during the weekend, and that is why Saturday and
Sunday are not always the days for rest. In case there is an activity
planned to be done during the weekend, the volunteer will take rest in
another day of the week.
Each month there are 2 free days apart from the official holidays and
the weekends, and the volunteer can use them as they want - for
travels, rest, meetings, etc. If he wish, he can use these days each
month or all of them as a holiday at once for the full periods of the
voluntary project.
