Pfarrcaritas Kindergarten Treffling
Pfarrcaritas Kindergarten Treffling
The EV will have also access to (Upper) Austrian culture and traditions, but also access to different methods for the furthering of early childhood development (music & nature pedagogics, …). In addition, the kindergarten offers a place to develop, test and implement new methods for the furthering of foreign languages and intercultural exchange for the age group of 3 to 6 years old children.
Proposed activities
The volunteer would be an additional person who could add his/her ideas
to create an intercultural and multilingual dimension for the
kindergarten. Intercultural learning from the early childhood can be
only achieved by means of personal contacts and communication. The
daily work with children offers a wide variety of exchange
possibilities (music and songs, cooking, dance, story telling &
literature, …). Creating an open mind and an interest in discovering
other languages and countries is achieved so in a very natural way
based on a daily contact and exchange - it becomes a sort of natural
effect of becoming familiar with each other.
The children will have access to other languages, other cultures and
will naturally learn intercultural openess and positive interest. The
employees of the kindergarten will get an intercultural surrounding at
their work place. The volunteer and the children can benefit from each
other. The work with children offers many ways of exchange.
The methods are developed together with the employees of the
kindergarten. Depending on internal agreements between the EV and the
kindergarten, the programmes developed can be implemented together in
small teams or by the EV alone. But the later only if the EV wishes so.
The focus of the implementation will be the afternoons, when only a
smaller number of children attends the kindergarten and interaction can
be organised in a more intensive way.
What kind of programme could be developped by the EV? For example, a
small language training based on regional songs from the country of the
EV or the common elaboration of a theater piece after a traditional
story from the EV country of origin - just to name two examples.
Creative input of the volunteer is very much appreciated.
A typical day:
The children are brought by their parents at the latest around 8:30
a.m. At this time the EV should also start contributing to the
kindergarten activities (possiblity to come by car with the hosting
family). There are 4 groups, each of them with around 20 children. The
EV can assist the different group leaders with the activities (playing,
preparing snacks, accompanying the children in the garden, singing, …
etc.). Around noon lunch is prepared and some of the children leave the
kindergarten. In the afternoon, 2 groups with around 15 children are in
the kindergarten. They have also special programmes (like music and
dance). The EV can follow these activities and step by step also
develop and implement the own programme (see ideas above). The special
programmes are decided internally between the volunteer and the
employees of the kindergarten. The day ends at around 4 p.m. (on Friday
at 1 p.m.) when the last children are picked-up by their parents. At
this time, the EV can also join the father of the hosting family to go
back home by car or to follow his/her own spare time activities.
The Pfarrcaritas Kindergarten is closed during Christmas holidays (two
weeks), and for Easter holidays. Summer holidays are in August. Best
would be when the volunteer could start end of August (in order to be
already actively involved in the preparatory activities and detailed
planning for the whole kindergarten year) and stay until July.
Volunteers Profile
We generally look for open-minded and outgoing personalities loving the
rural surrounding and the nature. The EV must be interested in working
with small children in the age of 3 to 6 years old. Experience with the
age group is essential (like by babysitting, activities in childrens
associations and/or educational background like school for kindergarten
pedagogics). Good communication skills and creativity (especially
music, dance, other performing arts or other) are equally important.
The work with children can be stressful and needs the ability to keep
one's nerve. The volunteer should aim creating own methods, approaches
or programmes and be happy to have a surrounding allowing him/her to
implement own projects with the children. But the EV will be never left
alone during the implementation of the project.
We are interested in a long-term cooperation (11 to 12 months), as the
children need time in order to get familiar with the volunteer and
his/her cultural background. This is a necessary condition for
intercultural learning. This is also valid for the parents who are
following very closely the activities in the kindergarten.
We are also interested to provide a more balanced representation of
gender in our kindergarten. Like in many European countries, the
employees in the Pfarrcaritas Kindergarten are only women. A young men
would be very much welcomed to join the team. Young women should also
not hesitate to contact us, as we are also very much interested to
start cooperation with creative and communicative young ladies.
