Romanian NGO is looking volunteers for an long term EVS project
Asociatia "Dezvoltarea Resurselor Pentru Toti"- DREPT is looking for 3 volunteers for 1st April 2009 deadline aplication term.
Outline the project environment for the suggested voluntary activities,
including the local community where the project will take place (e.g.
geographical, social and economical environment). If the host placement
is located in a live-in community, please include the rules and
conditions that apply also for the volunteer.
Asocia?ia Dezvoltarea Resurselor Pentru To?i - DREPT was founded on
June 2006 in Arad. The future activities will take place in Arad and
some neighbouring localities.
Town Arad is placed in the western part of Romania, at the intersection
of some important national and international traffic highways. The
Mures River crosses it from east to the west. The Municipality of Arad
has a rich cultural and historical patrimony. It offers to the visitors
a real out-door museum of the architectural styles specific to the
XVIII, XIX and XX centuries, art and historical monuments, theatre
performances, philharmonic orchestra concerts, plastic art exhibitions,
history museum exhibitions, art and sciences of the nature, festivals
and feasts.
The architecture lovers can admire buildings erected in baroque,
renaissance, eclectic, classic, neo-gothic and secession style, and the
most well known monuments of architecture being mentioned below:
Total population (2002): 172.824 inhabitants out of which 82.6 % are
Romanians, 12,9 % Hungarians, 1.7 % gypsy, 1.3 % Germans, 0.3 %
Serbians, 0.2 % Slovakians, Bulgarians: 0,15%, other 0,85%.
Average altitude - 110 m,
Climate - continental-moderate, with slight Mediterranean influences.

Arad town has a multi-ethnic and multi confessional character. We have
Orthodox church here, in two communities Romanian and Serbian, Catholic
church, Reformat church, Lutheran church, Mosaic religion. We have also
neo Protestants churches. Here we have two well-known universities,
Vasile Goldis and Aurel Vlaicu with more than 10 000 students Arad
offers great leisure opportunities to its inhabitants and visitors.
In the summer time the best place to be in Arad is Neptun "Strand", a
kind of swimming pool, a recreational area situated in the very heart
of the city.
We also had projects in some small villages near Arad: Zimandcuz, Sofronea, Vladimirescu.
Proposed activities for EVS volunteers:
Please explain:
" what you can offer to volunteers in terms of Service and learning opportunities,
" what will be the role of EVS volunteers in the Host Organisation,
" the activities in which the volunteers could be involved and the
activities the volunteers could create in your organisation. Please
give examples of typical activities for the volunteers.
We want to involve the volunteers in all organization projects and
activities. We want to offer to volunteers, especially, learning
opportunities: Romanian language, personal skills development, IT
knowledge, artistic abilities. The details about the volunteers'
activities will be discussed with each of them within project
preparation. Volunteers will be involved in the daily activities of our
organization, but also in the project that we will develop during their
stage.
The projects that we want implement in the future are:
" Courses for organizational management and management of projects.
" Campaigns on european themes for young people and other issues like: disabilities, mental health, abandoned children, etc.
" Compiling a guideline on best practices in for youth organizations.
" Activities to Counselling center for young people with special needs founded with Alcoa Foundation support.
" Activities like: art therapy, ergo therapy, therapy by music at Mental Health Centre from Arad.
Leisure time:
In order to spend their leisure time, our volunteers will have a season
ticket to our local swimming pool. They will have a few days holiday,
during whitch they could explore different locations in Romania.There
is a theatre and a philharmonic orchestra in our town and if the
volunteers are interested we can offer them tickets. We regularly have
meetings within our organization for discusions and other outdoor
activities: playing different sports, barbeque, listening to music,
wathcing movies, etc.
Volunteer profiles and recruitment process:
Please describe the profiles of volunteers you would like to receive in
your organisation. Include information on how you ensure an open and
transparent recruitment process as well as the overall accessibility of
EVS to all young people. Consider further information about the type of
Sending Organisation you want to cooperate with. This information can
help the match-making between volunteer candidates, Sending
Organisations and your organisation.
We are waiting for volunteers who are interested in non-formal methods
of education and who would like to join our volunteer community. The
main criteria in volunteers selection will be nondiscrimination.
We propose the following volunteer profile:

" Serious, implication and dedication.
" Language skills are desirable English or French (Italian)
" Creativity
" Interest in domains like: art, sport, environment, etc.
" Flexibility, honesty, determination, correctness, punctuality.
Regarding the sending organization we want only cooperation and promptitude.
Special needs (if applicable):
If your placements are open to hosting volunteers with fewer
opportunities, please provide information about the competence,
experience and infrastructure and (human or other) resources available
in your organisation to accommodate and support them.
We are open to hosting volunteers with special needs. Our organization
is able to manage and coordinate projects for young people with special
needs. 4 DREPT members are social workers and have experience in
working with people with disabilities. Moreover, 2 main activities of
the organization involve people with disabilities. Voluteers within the
organization carried on activities at "David House", a Centre for
abandoned children, and also we carried on activities in a Centre for
disabled people, where we arranged a counselling center for young
people with special needs.
Risk prevention, protection and safety:

" how you will guarantee a safe living and working environment for the EVS volunteers,
" how you will prevent risks and crises,
" how - in the case of EVS volunteers aged 16 or 17 - you ensure appropriate supervision, protection and safety.
Each of the international volunteers will have a personal mentor. The
mentor will stay at volunteer disposal not only for his integration in
our organization, but also for things like living in a new country,
cultural differences, local customs and traditions, language course,
etc. DREPT Organization and the local partners of the projects will
give access to all the necessary materials of a good carrying of the
project, adequate spaces, professional training services, internet
access and also urban public transport tickets, if needed. We will
offer each volunteer mentorship services and a structured program of
monitorizing and evaluation so that each volunteer will be given the
necessary education and communication support. We have two local
partners with good experience in EVS who can offer us their help:
Ofensiva Tinerilor and Millenium Center Arad. Also, we will have a good
cooperation with sending organization during volunteer stage.
