Short therm EVS opportunities in one youth project from Turkey
A group of local and Evs volunteeres prepare workshops on European awareness, youth information and Media, for the project target group.
A. Project environment: profile of the organisation and local community
" The association where the volunteers will stay and perform is a very
modern complex with its own sports centre, workshops for art and music,
a theatre saloon and a kindergarten, a technology class with internet
access and other office equipments for each user. The complex has its
own hostel which is very clean and comfortable for the volunteers. 5
minutes to University on foot 15 minutes to city centre by public
transportation and in a quite pleasant and quiet place.
B. Proposed activities for EVS volunteers
" Describe what you can offer to volunteers in terms of service and learning opportunities.
Weekly guidance by the mentor, language training twice a week and
support from the staff that they work closest with the youngsters
" Please, explain what will be the role of EVS volunteers in the host organisation.
The volunteer will be a part of the staff - as an assistant together
with one teacher or socialworker in the branch she or he want out of
their own skills or interests, or alone to run one sparetime activity
guided and prepared together with one of the staff.
" Describe the activities in which the volunteers could be involved and
the activities the volunteers could create in your organisation. Give
examples of typical activities for the volunteers.
Volunteers will run the activities according to the plan below. They
will follow the classes and be a member of a working team in assisting
and supporting the target group of youngsters of the immigrant families
or left the orphanasylium.
The volunteer will also run spare time activities out of skills and
interest, such as dancing, language training, art and handcraft - well
- in all kind of activities we have materials and possibilities -
indoor or outdoor activities, the nature is close.
We also run projects during the schoolyear - take one week to do the
same activities -. Theater, music performance, folk dances, during a
periode of the year, the volunteers could join all this activities.

10.00 - 12.00 Sportive Activities with a trainer and a young group with fewer opp.
12.00 - 13.00 Lunch Time
13.00 - 15.00 Learning how to play anotolian music instruments
15:00 - 17:00 Turkish Language Course in school borders
Tuesday
10:00 - 12.00 training plays and performances with theatre club
12.00 - 13.00 Lunch Time
13:00 - 15:00 Internet Room, developing intelligent tools, web sites, presentations, photo reporting
15:00 - 17:00 Turkish Language C.
Wednesday
10:00 - 12.00 Art Club, having experience on traditional painting styles and shaping mosaics
12.00 - 13.00 Lunch Time
13:00 - 15:00 Enviro-Club "some plants (under protection) grown only in
the region needs your care" in nature (woods close to school)
15:00 - 17:00 Turkish Language C.
Thursday
9:30 - 10:00 A briefing and evaluation
10:00 - 12.00 Documentary, reports, photos, office works of the project
12.00 - 13.00 Lunch Time
13:00 - 15:00 Folk dances, folk songs of volunteers and Turkish group. making a band
15:00 - 17:00 Turkish Language C. (outside, role playing, stimulating,
real life, in a reception or a market, historical place etc.)
Friday
10:00 - 12.00 Pedagocigal assist to youngs 13 - 18, with a pedagog, playing games, telling stories
12.00 - 13.00 Lunch Time
13:00 - 15:00 preparing a rehersal and a cultural festival for the last month of the project.
15:00 - 17:00 Turkish Language C.
Saturday and Sunday: Free
C. Volunteer profiles and recruitment process
The volunteer will need to be highly motivated to work close to aroun
15 young people, She/he will be interested in social and cultural
issues of the society.
It will also be nessesary that she/he is flexible and be able to work
predefined in all situations. Practical skills is an advantage, as we
have nearly no theoretical subjects. We are open to cooperate with any
sending organisation in Europe.
D. Special needs (if applicable)
We can practically solve diet problems and if there will be a
physically disabled young; our building is constructed for standards of
disabled people for example a wheel chaired youngster can easily move
in the complex.
E. Risk prevention, safety and protection
The volunteer will live inside the schoolarea - we have day and night
supervision for the students and volunteers if they need. We have a
long tradition to work with youths, and weekley meeting with the
mentor. We use the local healthservice whenever it is nessesary. We
also have plans how to handle crisis - the complex is guarded by
private security units 24 hours and we have a doctor and a nurse
indoor. Turkish Security Government also assists the tourists and
volunteers in any condititon.
