St. Antonius Youth Centre from Germany is looking for one EVS volunteer
The volunteer will work together with social worker, especially he will look after young immigrants from Albania and Russia.
A.
St. Antonius exist over thirty years and is a central point for
the young people in Hörstel. The leader of the youth centre is a social
worker. St. Antonius is central situated and had good equipment for the
young people. The aims of the youth work are work with young migrants,
the integration of foreign people, internet café, media pedagogical
youth work, music projects, experience pedagogical work and girls- boys
work.
Since year 1975 consist Hörstel town of four municipalitys: Bevergern,
Dreierwalde, Riesenbeck and Hörstel. In a Hörstel lives about 22.000
inhabitants. One part of inhabitants are coming from Russia. The area
of town Hörstel is very agricultural, but they have also the industry.
Hörstel is lying traffic-favorably at the highway A 30, to approx. 30
km far away from the large cities Münster, Ibbenbüren , Rheine and
Osnabrück. Also train connection are very good. Münster and Osnabrück
have a university and very good leisure offers. The Nederland is 50 km.
far away.
The youth centre St. Antonius had in last years already four European volunteers.
B.
The youth centre St. Antonius is organized in the way to offer free
experience room for a kids and young people. It is very important to
show the youth useful free time offers. The youth centre is a meeting
place for young people between 7 and18 years old. Free time activities
are of visitors needs oriented. The internet café is a centre of St.
Antonius and need a specially engagement. There are also special offers
in Easter, Christmas and Holiday time. For everyday free offers for the
youth are to cook, to dance, to make music and so one…
We make a lot of activities on the weekends and in the evenings. We
expect from the volunteer the flexibility and intention to work
sometimes on the weekend.
We hope that the volunteer will bring the international flair in the
youth centre. Our visitor will have more interests for the other
cultures and other way of lives.
Our aims are to wake up the young people for more tolerance and respect
for foreign cultures and get rid of prejudice against foreign people.
The volunteer will work together with social worker, especially he will
look after young immigrants from Albania and Russia. The volunteer will
have a tutor and he will be a part of pedagogical team. The tutor and
the volunteer will have during the EVS regular meetings and
supervision. The volunteer will have a support from the side of the
team to integrate in the project, to know the German culture and the
country. He/ she will get the support to realized his/ her own ideas.
The volunteer can bring his own experience and creativity in the
development of the project.
Working plan:

14.00-15.00 meeting between tutor and volunteer 14.00-15:00 team
meeting 14.00 -18.00 cooking studio with children 7-12 years old ( 2
hours).; 14.00-18.00 work in the youth centre: kicker , billiard,
internet café, Breakdance workshop 14.00-15.00 work in the youth

15.00- 19.00 work in the youth centre: kicker , billiard, internet café
15.00- 18.30 cooking group with the 12-14 years old boys / theatre
workshop with the 9-12 years old girls work in the youth centre:
internet café, kicker, billiard 15.00-16.00 music workshop : working
with the bands (German language and music knowledge's are necessary) ;
19.30-22.30 work in the youth centre with young people between 16 and
21 years old. 18.00 - 19:30 working time for development of volunteers

Some special things about the youth centre St. Antonius:
The youth centre make the specially offers in the Eastern, Christmas
and Holiday time. The volunteer will have two meetings in a week with
youth centre leader. He will take part on the team meetings.
The pedagogical team of the youth centre ST. Antonius in year 2007:
Leader ( social worker),
One year social student trainee (Enschede college),
One year social student trainee (Ibbenbüren college),
January - March 2008 two month social student trainee,
One person on compulsory non - military national service.
For all activities we need a volunteer with a minimal German language
knowledge's. The gender of the volunteer is for us not important.
C.
The volunteer should be communicativ and self-confident person. He/she
schould not havea fear to get in contact with foreign people. The
volunterr must be able to work with pedagogical team of youth centre.
He/she must have some computer knowlegese and some experience in youth
work. The volunter must be able to work independent and creativ.
We are working with all sendig organisatios. It will be great to work
with organisatio , ho has experience in work with young immigrants.
E.
The local hosting organization provides an appropriate accommodation
possibility for the volunteer. According to the place of the project,
the volunteer will live in Ibbenbüren or Westerkappeln in a dwelling,
which many volunteers are sharing or in the accommodation of the
clinical center Ibbenbüren. Here the volunteer has its own room,
kitchen and a bath are common rooms, which are available for several
persons.
Between the tutor and the volunteer periodically conversations will
take place in order to accompany progress and to help the volunteer
with the solution of probably arising problems. Additionally the tutor
guarantees the receive of continual support for the volunteer.
For the first time in the project a training plan will be arranged.
Volunteers receive each necessary support for the realization of their
tasks and enough time to get into the new job.
The training plan will help in the integration in the local district and the project surrounding field.
The co-ordinating organization ensures that the volunteer participates
in the on-arrival-training and the mid-term-meeting. EVS- volunteers
receives an appropriate language training during their stay, which is
organized by the coordinating organization.
Co-workers of the co-ordinating organization look after the volunteer
and will take care. They are also organizing meetings, which take place
every 4-6 weeks, where all volunteers of the region meet each other. In
special meetings they become acquainted intensively with the German
culture. In the beginning, in the middle and at the end of the EVS a
conversation between the volunteer, the tutor and the co-ordinating
organization takes place and there are special meetings only for the
tutors, where they can exchange their experiences. The
youth-welfare-office has developed some quality-standards, which
includes the on-arrival-conversation and the mid-term-conversation and
also a questionnaire , which is to be filled by the tutor and the
volunteer in the beginning of the EVS.
